Background
Psychological stress and physical activity (PA) are believed to be reciprocally related; however, most research examining the relationship between these constructs is devoted to the study of exercise and/or PA as an instrument to mitigate distress.

The effects of stress on physical activity and exercise.

Information and communication technology (ICT) are becoming a natural part in healthcare both for delivering and giving accessibility to healthcare for people with chronic illness living at home. Aim. The aim was to review existing studies describing the use of ICT in home care for communication between patients, family members, and healthcare professionals. Methods. A review of studies was conducted that identified 1,276 studies. A selection process and quality appraisal were conducted, which finally resulted in 107 studies. Results. The general results offer an overview of characteristics of studies describing the use of ICT applications in home care and are summarized in areas including study approach, quality appraisal, publications data, terminology used for defining the technology, and disease diagnosis. The specific results describe how communication with ICT was performed in home care and the benefits and drawbacks with the use of ICT. Results were predominated by positive responses in the use of ICT. Conclusion. The use of ICT applications in home care is an expanding research area, with a variety of ICT tools used that could increase accessibility to home care. Using ICT can lead to people living with chronic illnesses gaining control of their illness that promotes self-care.

Cultural Awareness Nursing Care of Iraqi Patients

Minimal information is available in the literature addressing video sharing in nursing education. Using multiple examples, the authors discuss the use of YouTube, a popular video-sharing and social networking site. YouTube is used to illustrate theoretical content, involve students, and inspire innovative teaching methods. Faculty can use this technology to stimulate student discussions, share information, and create a learning community. YouTube stimulates active learning and brings new relevance and applications to nursing curriculum.

An untapped resource: using YouTube in nursing education.

This study examined the relationships between stress, coping, general well-being, and sociodemographic characteristics using Lazarus and Folkman's theory of stress and coping. A descriptive correlational design was used. The sample consisted of 105 female spouses of currently deployed active duty military members. Instruments included the Perceived Stress Scale, the Jalowiec Coping Scale, and the RAND-36. Perceived stress was the best predictor of both mental and physical well-being, accounting for 51.7% and 25.4% of the variance, respectively. Evasive and optimistic coping contributed an additional 1.9 % and 4.3%, respectively, to the variance in mental well-being. Differences in coping use were found among rank groups, those who grew up in a military family, and those with a previous deployment separation. Nurses are in an ideal position to identify military spouses at risk and provide education on effective coping behaviors shown to positively affect well-being during deployment separation.

Army nursing practice challenges in humanitarian and wartime missions

The research question guiding this study was: What are the nursing practice challenges for Army nurses in military operations other than war (MOOTW), or humanitarian missions and wartime? Using a descriptive qualitative design, 75 Army Nurse Corps officers with deployment experience participated in a focused interview either in person or by telephone. Deployment locations included Bosnia, Honduras, Iraq, Afghanistan and other worldwide locations. Nurses recounted challenges and adjustments made to deliver high quality patient care to soldiers and civilian casualties especially for multi-level traumatic injuries. Specialized skill sets and personal adaptation were necessary for practice under austere conditions in these environments. By understanding the practice of nursing in MOOTW and wartime, nurses can best prepare and train to effectively function and care for patients in these challenging settings.

Army nursing practice challenges in humanitarian and wartime missions.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of digital images on the assessment and recommendations of a WOC nurse who was providing remote nurse-to-nurse consultations on home care patients with wounds. METHODS In a descriptive comparative study, data were collected by home care nurses from a sample of 43 adult patients with a total of 89 wounds with various etiologies. To determine whether or not the addition of a digital photograph influenced the WOC nurse's assessment and recommendations, the WOC nurse first completed a wound assessment and recommendation form based on a verbal report from the home care nurse. The WOC nurse then accessed digital images of the wounds and made any indicated modifications to the original assessment and management plan, providing a rationale for any changes. Comparisons were made between the assessment completed by the home care nurse and the WOC nurse's assessment and between the WOC nurse's assessment and recommendations based only on a verbal report and his or her assessment and recommendations based on the combination of a verbal report and a digital photograph. RESULTS Although there was a high percentage of agreement between the wound assessments completed by the home care nurse and those completed by the WOC nurse, areas of disagreement often impacted on the overall assessment. The agreement rates between the WOC nurse's assessment and recommendations based only on a verbal report versus those based on a combination of verbal report and digital photographs were as follows: total agreement (26/89 = 29.2%), trivial disagreement (11/89 = 12.4%), and clinically relevant disagreement (52/89 = 58.4%). CONCLUSIONS WOC nurses who provide remote nurse-to-nurse consultations without directly visualizing the patients' wounds through digital images are at risk for under-or overtreating patients' wounds. Digital images also provide an opportunity for the WOC nurse to mentor home care nurses in wound assessment and care.
