Adherence to clinical practice guidelines for low back pain in physical therapy: do patients benefit?

TL;DR: The results indicate that higher percentages of guideline adherence are related to better improvement of physical functioning and to a lower utilization of care.
Journal ArticleDOI

Measuring physiotherapists’ guideline adherence by means of clinical vignettes: a validation study

TL;DR: Vignettes are of acceptable validity, and are an inexpensive and manageable instrument to measure guideline adherence among large groups of physiotherapists, and could benefit from the use of standardized patients as a gold standard, a more diverse case mix to better reflect real physiotherapy practice, and the inclusion of longitudinal vignettes that cover the patients' course of treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Qualitative Application of the Diffusion of Innovations Theory to Examine Determinants of Guideline Adherence Among Physical Therapists

TL;DR: The findings indicated that the diffusion process of guidelines among physical therapists was not yet completed, and the use of theory can provide added value to guideline implementation studies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Development of a theory- and evidence-based intervention to enhance implementation of physical therapy guidelines for the management of low back pain

TL;DR: Intervention Mapping is a useful framework for formative data in program planning in the field of clinical guideline implementation, however, a decision aid to select determinants of guideline adherence identified in the formative research to analyse the problem may increase the efficiency of the application of the Intervention Mapping process.
Journal ArticleDOI
