Journal ArticleDOI

Conformation sensitive gel electrophoresis for simple and accurate detection of mutations: Comparison with denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis and nucleotide sequencing

TL;DR: In a survey of 736 alleles of collagen genes, CSGE detected 223 unique single-base mismatches that were confirmed by nucleotide sequencing and has the advantage over other methods for scanning PCR products in that it is simple, requires no special preparation of PCR products, has a large capacity, and does not use radioactivity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Procollagen with Skipping of α1(I) Exon 41 Has Lower Binding Affinity for α1(I) C-telopeptide, Impaired in Vitro Fibrillogenesis, and Altered Fibril Morphology

TL;DR: The results suggest that some collagen molecules containing the mutant chain are incorporated into fibrils and that the absence of the telopeptide binding region from even a small portion of the monomers interferes with fibril growth.

Compositions and methods for detecting altered COL1A1 gene sequences

TL;DR: In this article, the existence of a pathological condition associated with an altered gene encoding a Type I or Type IX collagen protein chain is identified, wherein such pathological conditions include diseases and disorders which are known to be associated with the altered gene.
