Spontaneous human adult stem cell transformation
Daniel Rubio,Javier García-Castro,María C. Martín,Ricardo de la Fuente,Juan C. Cigudosa,Alison C. Lloyd,Antonio Bernad +6 more
TL;DR: This is the first report of spontaneous transformation of human adult stem cells, supporting the hypothesis of cancer stem cell origin, and indicates the importance of biosafety studies of mesenchymal stem cell biology to efficiently exploit their full clinical therapeutic potential.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells have in vivo immunosuppressive properties applicable for the control of the graft-versus-host disease.
Rosa Yañez,María L. Lamana,Javier García-Castro,Isabel Colmenero,Manuel Ramírez,Juan A. Bueren +5 more
TL;DR: These findings constitute the first experimental proof that Ad‐MSCs can efficiently control the GVHD associated with allogeneic hematopoietic transplantation, opening new perspectives for the clinical use of Ad‐ MSCs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Osteosarcoma: Cells-of-Origin, Cancer Stem Cells, and Targeted Therapies.
Ander Abarrategi,Juan Tornin,Lucia Martinez-Cruzado,Ashley Hamilton,Enrique Martínez-Campos,Juan P. Rodrigo,M. Victoria Gonzalez,Nicola Baldini,Javier García-Castro,Rene Rodriguez +9 more
TL;DR: Current OS cell-of-origin models, the properties of the OS-CSC and its niche, and potential new therapies able to target OS- CSCs are recapitulates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular Characterization of Spontaneous Mesenchymal Stem Cell Transformation
Daniel Rubio,Silvia Garcia,Maria Paz,Teresa de la Cueva,Luis A. López-Fernández,Alison C. Lloyd,Javier García-Castro,Antonio Bernad +7 more
TL;DR: A two-stage model by which a human MSC becomes a tumor cell is proposed and it is proposed that MSC bypass senescence by upregulating c-myc and repressing p16 levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pitfalls in spontaneous in vitro transformation of human mesenchymal stem cells.
Santiago Vega García,Antonio Bernad,María C. Martín,Juan C. Cigudosa,Javier García-Castro,R de la Fuente +5 more
TL;DR: In this scenario, the previous results were only a new observation, and the emergence of tumorogenic populations upon in vitro culture of fetal human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC), induced by GM-CSF and IL-4, and bone marrow hMSC have also been reported.
