TL;DR: Based on the way in which DNA sequences containing hormone Regulatory elements are identified and organized in genes, glucocorticoid and CAMP regulatory elements are discussed in the chapter, along with describing the positional flexibility of positive and negative elements.
Abstract: Publisher Summary The examination of hormone regulatory elements in genes regulated by single hormones provides insight into the mechanism of hormonal regulation of transcription. Although a number of genes transcriptionally regulated by single hormones have been isolated and analyzed, few that respond to multiple hormones have been cloned. This chapter focuses on the organization of regulatory elements in genes regulated by multiple hormones. It also discusses the techniques used to identify regulatory elements because they are essential for the identification of these elements. Based on the way in which DNA sequences containing hormone regulatory elements are identified and organized in genes, glucocorticoid and CAMP regulatory elements are discussed in the chapter, along with describing the positional flexibility of positive and negative elements. The organization of these elements is examined in genes regulated by multiple hormones—that is, whether multiple elements are independent or interdependent and whether multiple hormones can act through the same element.
