Journal ArticleDOI

Cdk2 activity is dispensable for the onset of DNA replication during the first mitotic cycles of the sea urchin early embryo.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that even after inhibition of Cdk activities, the permeabilization of the nuclear membrane is required to allow a second round of DNA replication, and data suggest that during early embryogenesis Cdks activities, in particular Cdk2, are dispensable in vivo for the initiation step ofDNA replication.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Presumptive Developmental Role for a Sea Urchin Cyclin B Splice Variant

TL;DR: It is shown that a splice variant–derived cyclin B is produced in sea urchin oocytes and embryos, and its microinjection prevents an initial step in MPF activation, leading to an important delay in oocyte meiosis reinitiation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cyclin B synthesis and rapamycin-sensitive regulation of protein synthesis during starfish oocyte meiotic divisions.

TL;DR: The immunosupressant drug rapamycin, a strong inhibitor of cap‐dependent translation, was found to prevent dissociation of 4E‐BP from the initiation factor eIF4E and to suppress correlatively a burst of global protein synthesis occurring at the G2/M transition.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transcriptional versus non-transcriptional clocks: A case study in Ostreococcus

TL;DR: This review highlights the progress made recently in the understanding of circadian clock architecture and function in Ostreococcus in the context of the marine environment.
