Simultaneous control of production, preventive and corrective maintenance rates of a failure-prone manufacturing system

TL;DR: In this paper, the control of corrective and preventive maintenance rates in the production planning of a manufacturing system with machines subject to random failures and repairs is discussed, where the objective is to minimize a discounted overall cost consisting of maintenance cost, inventory holding and backlog cost.
Journal ArticleDOI

Age-dependent production planning and maintenance strategies in unreliable manufacturing systems with lost sale

TL;DR: An analytical model for the joint determination of an optimal age-dependent buffer inventory and preventive maintenance policy in a production environment that is subject to random machine breakdowns is formulated, and the numerical solution obtained shows that the proposed age- dependent optimal production and maintenance policies significantly reduce the overall cost incurred.
Journal ArticleDOI

Control of production and corrective maintenance rates in a multiple-machine, multiple-product manufacturing system

TL;DR: A computational algorithm, based on numerical methods, is given for solving the optimal production control and corrective maintenance planning problem for a failure prone manufacturing system consisting of several identical machines.
Journal ArticleDOI

Optimal safety stocks and preventive maintenance periods in unreliable manufacturing systems

TL;DR: A more realistic mathematical model of a manufacturing system with preventive maintenance that produces a single part type and derive expressions of the overall incurred cost used as the basis for optimal determination of the jointly production and preventive maintenance policies is developed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Optimal production control problem in stochastic multiple-product multiple-machine manufacturing systems

TL;DR: Based on the structure of the hedging point policy, a parameterized near-optimal production policy for a multiple-product manufacturing system is proposed in this article, where the analytical formalism is combined with simulation-based statistical tools, such as experimental design and response surface methodology, to provide an approximation of the optimal control policy.
