Journal ArticleDOI
Pathophysiology and treatment of stroke in sickle-cell disease: present and future
TL;DR: The epidemiology, clinical spectrum, and pathophysiology of stroke in sickle-cell disease is reviewed to identify potential therapeutic targets and interventions directed towards the potential mechanisms that promote vasculopathy and occlusion in sickre-cell anaemia should be investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Simplified Modified Rankin Scale Questionnaire Reproducibility Over the Telephone and Validation With Quality of Life
Askiel Bruno,Abiodun Emmanuel Akinwuntan,Chen Lin,Brian Close,Kristin Davis,Vanessa Baute,Tia Aryal,Desiree D. Brooks,David C. Hess,Jeffrey A. Switzer,Fenwick T. Nichols +10 more
TL;DR: The slightly revised smRSq appears to be useful in clinical stroke; it has excellent reliability in person and by telephone, can usually be administered in <1.5 minutes by a wide variety of raters, and correlates with quality of life.
Journal ArticleDOI
Minocycline to Improve Neurologic Outcome in Stroke (MINOS): A Dose-Finding Study
Susan C. Fagan,Susan C. Fagan,Jennifer L. Waller,Fenwick T. Nichols,David J. Edwards,L. Creed Pettigrew,Wayne M. Clark,Christiana E. Hall,Jeffrey A. Switzer,Adviye Ergul,Adviye Ergul,David C. Hess,David C. Hess +12 more
TL;DR: An early phase trial of intravenous minocycline in acute ischemic stroke found the drug is safe and well tolerated up to doses of 10 mg/kg intravenously alone and in combination with tissue plasminogen activator.
Journal ArticleDOI
Improving Modified Rankin Scale Assessment With a Simplified Questionnaire
Askiel Bruno,Neel Shah,Chen Lin,Brian Close,David C. Hess,Kristin Davis,Vanessa Baute,Jeffrey A. Switzer,Jennifer L. Waller,Fenwick T. Nichols +9 more
TL;DR: The modified Rankin Scale questionnaire (smRSq) appears to have very good reliability that is similar to that of a structured interview mRS and is considerably less time-consuming.
