Methods, apparatus, and articles of manufacture for enabling keyboard accelerators (301) in software applications implemented via a browser application are disclosed herein. Keyboard accelerators are enabled by intercepting keyboard data (303) before it can be utilized by the browser application for its own purposes, such as initiation of a keyboard accelerator native to the browser application. The intercepted keyboard data is evaluated (305) to determine whether it corresponds to a defined remote application keyboard accelerator, and if so, then a remote application function module (309) is called to implement the feature mapped to the particular identified keyboard accelerator. The keyboard data may then be removed from an event queue or otherwise deleted such that the browser application continues to be executed without reference thereto.

Methods and apparatus for enabling keyboard accelerators in applications implemented via a browser

An information management system is described comprising one or more workstations running applications to allow a user of the workstation to connect to a network, such as the Internet. Each application has an analyzer, which monitors transmission data that the application is about to transmit to the network or about to receive from the network and which determines an appropriate action to take regarding that transmission data. Such actions may be extracting data from the transmission data, such as passwords and usernames, digital certificates or eCommerce transaction details for storage in a database; ensuring that the transmission data is transmitted at an encryption strength appropriate to the contents of the transmission data; determining whether a check needs to be made as to whether a digital certificate received in transmission data is in force, and determining whether a transaction about to be made by a user of one of the workstations needs third party approval before it is made. The analyzer may consult a policy data containing a policy to govern the workstations in order to make its determination. The information management system provides many advantages in the eCommerce environment to on-line trading companies, who may benefit by being able to regulate the transactions made by their staff according to their instructions in a policy data, automatically maintain records of passwords and business conducted on-line, avoid paying for unnecessary checks on the validity of digital certificates and ensure that transmissions of data made by their staff are always protected at an agreed strength of encryption.

Information management system

A network of servers coupled to the Internet provides a virtual desktop in a virtual computing environment. A user is able to access the virtual desktop from a variety of systems through various communications links. A site server initially receives a URL access from the user at a local system. After a successful login, a personal web page of the user is retrieved from a file server and returned to the local system. Through the personal web page, the user is able to send commands that are received and processed by one or more backend servers. The web page represents the virtual desktop of the user and includes links for applications available to the user, files and folders accessible by the user, and other personal information of the user. The network provides facilities to manipulate and manage files, and facilities to access and process data from web sites on the Internet.

A method is provided for modifying an image. The method comprises displaying an image, the image comprising a portion of an object; and determining if an edge of the object is in a location within the portion. The method further comprises detecting movement, in a member direction, of an operating member with respect to the edge. The method still further comprises moving, if the edge is not in the location, the object in an object direction corresponding to the detected movement; and modifying, if the edge is in the location, the image in response to the detected movement, the modified image comprising the edge in the location.

A Web-based, integrated customer interface system (200) for data management. The customer interface system is provided with a graphical customer interface (79) for enabling a customer to interact with one or more products and services provided by remote servers located in an enterprise Intranet/Extranet, and utilizes a Web paradigm to allow easy and convenient access to all of the services from the customer's perspective. The products and services delivered to a client workstation having the integrated customer interface include: 1) report requestor (212), report viewer (215), and report management applications (250); 2) centralized inbox system (210, 270); 3) an operational data storage system (400); 4) a trouble ticket tool; 5) a Web-based invoice reporting system; 6) an Internet 'online' order entry (280, 39) and administration service; and, 7) a system for handling security and authentication requests from both client and server side.

Integrated customer interface for web-based data management

An integrated system of user interfaces (20) is provided for communicating with remote services. A backplane architecture controls and manages the user interfaces by instantiating, launching, overseeing and closing the user interfaces associated with a plurality of applications residing in a plurality of remote servers (24, 26, 28, 31, 32, 34, 52). Each application communicates with one another and with the backplane via messaging interfaces.
