TL;DR: High resolution evoked potentials, sampled from 115 channels and spatially sharpened with the finite element deblurring method, were recorded from 8 subjects during working memory and control tasks and indicate that WM is a function of a distributed system with both task-specific and task-independent components.

TL;DR: The neurologic examination and ancillary studies were consistent with a dysautonomic small fiber neuropathy and the cerebrospinal fluid contained both Epstein‐Barr virus (EBV) DNA and antibody to EBV.
Abstract: A 44-year-old man developed blurry vision, photosensitivity, orthostasis, constipation, and acrodysesthesias after a febrile illness. The neurologic examination and ancillary studies were consistent with a dysautonomic small fiber neuropathy. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) contained both Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA and antibody to EBV. This is the first report of an acute autonomic neuropathy with documented EBV infection in CSF.

TL;DR: A comprehensive application of the travel cost method to the estimation of the recreation use values of Dorrigo and Gibraltar Range National Parks is outlined, providing value estimates that are useful for the development of park acquisition and management policy and providing some important lessons for the future use of the TCM.

TL;DR: The authors suggest that there are several flaws with the citizen value hypothesis, which can be grouped into arguments about the existence of citizen values based on ethical or altruistic grounds, and arguments about identifying of citizen value.
Abstract: Blarney, Common and Quiggin (1995) (BCQ) suggest that responses to contingent valuation (CV) questionnaires may be framed either according to the extent of individual benefits received, or according to wider views about ethical frameworks, impacts on other people, or desired societal levels. They characterise the individual benefit approach as a consumer model, and responses indicating wider concerns as citizen preferences. Citizen value responses are held to invalidate the economic assumptions underlying the use of CV. Hence, they hypothesize that the incorporation of CV results into benefit-cost analysis is problematic. In this comment we suggest that there are several flaws with the citizen value hypothesis. These can be grouped into arguments about the existence of citizen values based on ethical or altruistic grounds, and arguments about the identification of citizen values.

TL;DR: In this article, it was found that the per visit economic value of the recreation use of Dorrigo and Gibraltar Range National Park was $34 and $20 respectively or extrapolated to an annual value.
Abstract: The results of recent studies commissioned by the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service indicated that national parks and other protected areas have considerable economic value and can contribute directly and indirectly to the employment, income, output and value added of the regional economies within which they are located. The recognition and identification of these values and impacts can have implications for environmental policy development, park management and regional development planning. It was found that the per visit economic value of the recreation use of Dorrigo and Gibraltar Range National Park was $34 and $20 respectively or extrapolated to an annual value, approximately $5.4 m for Dorrigo National Park and $0.8 m for Gibraltar Range National Park. With positive population growth, higher levels of income and a continuing shift in preferences towards conservation and outdoor recreation there is a strong argument that these economic benefits would increase over time. However, on ...

Abstract: A comprehensive application of the travel cost method (TCM) to the estimation of the recreation use values of Dorrigo and Gibraltar Range National Parks is outlined. As well as providing value estimates that are useful for the development of park acquisition and management policy, the application also provides some important lessons for the future use of TCM. So long as some key assumptions relating to the value of travel time and site congestion are shown to hold, then a stream-lined version of the TCM can be used. The questionnaire required to implement the abridged version is brief, thus encouraging a better response rate. Survey and analysis costs are therefore likely to be lower, making the TCM a more cost-effective decision making tool.
