Analyzing the success of movies has always been a popular research topic in the film industry. Artificial intelligence and machine learning methods in the movie industry have been applied to modeling the financial success of the movie industry. The new contribution of this research combined Bayesian variable selection and machine learning methods for forecasting the return on investment (ROI). We also attempt to compare machine learning methods including the quantile regression model with movie performance data in terms of in-sample and out of sample forecasting.

Finding Nemo: Predicting Movie Performances by Machine Learning Methods

Despite the growth of empirical evidence in this field, little review research exists that assesses the theoretical aspects, marketing drivers, and consequences of market mavens. In this study, therefore, a systematic literature review (SLR) was utilized to perform a thorough analysis of market maven literature, encompassing articles published over 23 years on the Scopus and Web of Science indexed journals. It was found that the social and psychological aspects had not been widely explored and remained the weakest pillar. The results highlight that the theory of planned behavior has been the most commonly applied theory in the literature, as it has been used in six studies. Moreover, there is a very limited understanding of the existing literature's psychological and motivational characteristics and their role in cyber-market mavenism. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first SLR that addresses market maven literature. This research offers a comprehensive study agenda that focuses on various critical areas that need more consideration, such as the cultural role of market mavens and the differentiation between the roles of market mavens and non-mavens in sharing information on social network sites. Current Status of Market Mavens Research: A Literature Review

: Hollywood plays an important role in the globalization strategy of the United States. The globalization of American films not only creates huge economic benefits, but also creates an American-style world taste. Hollywood regards China as the most promising international film market, and With the help of national strength and economic strength, various strategies are being adopted to cultivate and develop this market. The purpose of this article is to study the impact of Hollywood films on the Chinese film industry. This experiment mainly uses questionnaire survey methods and literature research methods. Through experiments to count the number of box offices in mainland China, to view the number of movies on the list of films, the source of the films, and the characteristics of the films. In terms of film cultural background and other aspects, the study found that these films come from Hollywood, the hometown of American movies. It can be said that American film and television culture has spread more and more widely in China. The experimental data shows that in the survey of preferences of the film production area, the college student group is taken as the object of the research survey. According to statistics, 62.3% of the respondents expressed their love for film and television works in Europe and the United States, and for films made in mainland China and Hong Kong and Taiwan. The rates are 20% and 14.5% respectively, and they have the lowest love for Japanese and Korean movies, only 3.3%. It can be seen that among the masses, European and American movies represented by Hollywood are the most attractive to the Chinese people, and the popularity of movies made in mainland China is not high. Hollywood's Global Strategy and the Development of Chinese Film

In this research, we investigate the relationship between a movie’s gross and its budget, year of release, season of release, genre, and rating. The movie data used in this research are severely skewed to the right, resulting in the problems of nonlinearity, non-normal distribution, and non-constant variance of the error terms. To overcome these difficulties, we employ a Gaussian copula marginal regression (GCMR) model after adjusting the gross and budget variables for inflation using a consumer price index. An analysis of the data found that year of release, budget, season of release, genre, and rating were all statistically significant predictors of movie gross. Specifically, one unit increases in budget and year were associated with an increase in movie gross. G movies were found to gross more than all other kinds of movies (PG, PG-13, R, and Other). Movies released in the fall were found to gross the least compared to the other three seasons. Finally, action movies were found to gross more than biography, comedy, crime, and other movie genres, but gross less than adventure, animation, drama, fantasy, horror, and mystery movies.

Examining Factors That Affect Movie Gross Using Gaussian Copula Marginal Regression

We investigate the possibility that an individual-level decline in preference over time is responsible for the well-known decline in a movie's revenues after opening. In the first part of this study, using a Canadian panel we show that such a decline does indeed occur in both individual consumers’ anticipated liking of movies, and in actual movie choice. The second part explores the mere newness effect building on the fact that new products carry both private and social values, and proposes that these values decay continuously over time. Capitalizing on the notion that characteristics of market mavens interact differently with private and social values, we develop and show support for hypotheses based on the proposed mechanism.
