A cartridge for a carbon ribbon of an office machine, comprises a container in which are rotatable a feed spool and a take-up for the carbon ribbon. The carbon ribbon passes from the feed spool out of a first aperture and back into the container through a second aperture of the container. The take-up spool is rotatable mounted on a support which is pivoted in the container about a fixed axis. The container has at the bottom an opening arranged in correspondence of a toothed roller also rotatable in the container and adapted to receive a driving shaft of the machine for the rotation of the toothed roller. A spring biases the support of the take-up spool against the teeth of the toothed roller for holding the outermost turn of the carbon ribbon wound on the take-up spool in engagement with the toothed roller, so that for the rotation of the take-up spool by the toothed roller, the ribbon is unwound from the feed spool to the take-up spool.

Cartridge for a ribbon of a typewriter or like office machines

A protective carton-enclosed typewriter ribbon pancake assembly and associated cartridge frame having a biased-open top are disclosed. The pancake assembly includes a typewriter ribbon pancake spirally wrapped around a supply hub. The ribbon and supply hub are enclosed by a protective paper carton configured for insertion within the cartridge frame. The carton has holes through which the ends of the supply hub pass. The free end of the ribbon is attached to a take-up hub. A used ribbon pancake assembly is disposed of by merely releasing the biased top of the frame so that the used ribbon, protective carton and hubs free fall into an underlying waste receptacle. The carton is shaped to insure proper alignment of the pancake assembly within the cartridge.

Refillable typewriter ribbon cartridge

Improved document handling for a xerographic copier with automatic feeding onto, and ejection of documents from, a full size conventional document copying platen is provided by a vacuum belt system in a platen cover unit. The document support surface of the vacuum belt is spaced slightly above the platen for low friction document movement, yet maintained within copying focus. This document support and background surface of the belt is smooth, planar and continuous and stationary during copying so as to provide document flattening and allow document copying on the platen by the conventional stationary document copying optics. Book copying or manual copying can be provided on the same platen by pivotal removal of the platen cover unit away from the platen. A document pre-registration and skew-correction system is disclosed in which over-platen registration is not required. A pivotal system is also disclosed for limited lifting of the vacuum belt system for document ejection assistance.

Copier document handler

A device for preventing a sheet-like original, when conveyed to a position for reading the image information of the original, from being conveyed to the reading position in an oblique condition with respect to a proper direction. When the original 14, 25, 81 is conveyed along a guide surface 5 while being held between a ball, 8, 23, 33, 44, 51, 71, 75 and an opposed member 6, 22, 29, 31, 50, 70, 76, this device conveys the original at a certain angle with respect to the guide surface, thereby automatically correcting to a proper direction the original being obliquely fed.

Original aligning device

A ribbon cartridge includes a pair of housings having apertures, a pair of ribbon spools rotatably supported in the housings, and a ribbon wound on the spools. A portion of the ribbon is exposed to the outside of the housings through the apertures when the ribbon is fed from one spool to the other. Each housing rotatably supporting a hold member. The hold member has a holding portion which is movable across a ribbon passage within the respective housings for holding the ribbon and has an engaging portion which is engageable with teeth on a flange of each spool, and each hold member is biased by a spring member. When the cartridge is removed from the typewriter, the holding portion is moved across the ribbon passage and a portion of the ribbon slackened and exposed from the housing is tensioned. The engaging portion prevents the rotation of the respective spools by the biasing force of the spring member, and when the cartridge is installed in the typewriter, the hold member is retracted to a released position by a retract member of the typewriter.

Ribbon cartridge having slack preventing means

A document feed device is disclosed which utilizes intermittently operated endless drive belts to transport a document sheet from an entry guide to an exposure zone and from there to an exit hopper where the drive belts are tensioned over the trailing and leading edges of the work station to provide concentrated drive forces at those points and where the leading edge is slightly elevated from the plane of the work station to provide a region of force relief immediately after passing the leading edge. The document is moved into engagement with the drive belt by picker roll mechanism which controls initiation of feed and is accelerated away from the work station by an accelerator roll arrangement which drives the document at a speed faster than it is normally fed to make room for the next document. Alignment is accomplished by an alignment guide having fingers inter-digitated with the plurality of feed belts and providing a positive stop against which the document is lightly urged by the feed belts. The feed belt/work station surface arrangement is such as to provide an increasing urging force in the direction of feed.

An ink ribbon package P, Fig. 1, comprising a cardboard support 16 on which is disposed a flangeless supply spool 11, having wound thereon a single-pass ink ribbon 12 and a flanged take-up spool 13 to the hub 14 of which is attached free end 12c of the ink ribbon 12, the spools 11, 13 being wrapped in a transparent plastics foil 17, is provided with a loading assistant 20, having at its free end remote from the hub 14 an arcuate guide 22 for a loop 12b of the portion 12a of the ink ribbon, whose free end 12c is attached to the hub and whose intermediate length is clamped by a clamp member 23 which depends from the other free end of the assistant 20 used for facilitating the loading of the ink ribbon over a capstan 31, Fig. 3, and a driving pin 34 of the take-up spool 14. To keep the assistant 20 in position during transit it is locked in a slot 24 adjacent the hub 14 and towards the end of the loading the assistant 80 is disengaged from the take-up spool 13 by the pin 34 which displaces a pin 26, (Fig. 2) integral with the assistant 20 and disposed in the bore of the hub 14.
