Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of feedstock and pyrolysis temperature on biochar adsorption of ammonium and nitrate.
TL;DR: It is concluded that biochar can be used under conditions where NH4 +-N (or NH3) pollution is a concern, but further research is needed in terms of applying biochars to reduce NO3 −-N pollution.
Journal ArticleDOI
Past, present, and future use of phosphorus in Chinese agriculture and its influence on phosphorus losses
TL;DR: A scenario analysis of soil P budget and agronomic P demand during 2011–2030 highlighted the great pressure China faces in sustainable P management and the need for drastic changes in current practices.
Journal ArticleDOI
Short-term effects of maize residue biochar on phosphorus availability in two soils with different phosphorus sorption capacities
TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of maize straw biochar on phosphorus availability in two soils with different P sorption capacities (iron and aluminum dominated slight acid Red earth and calcium dominated alkaline Fluvo-aquic soil).
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term benefits of combining chemical fertilizer and manure applications on crop yields and soil carbon and nitrogen stocks in North China Plain
Xiapu Gai,Hongbin Liu,Jian Liu,Limei Zhai,Yang Bo,Wu Shuxia,Tianzhi Ren,Qiuliang Lei,Hongyuan Wang +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the long-term effects of various fertilization regimes on crop yield and soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN) in the topsoil (0-20 cm) of a fluvo-aquic soil in a wheat-maize (Zea mays L.) cropping system in the North China Plain.
Journal ArticleDOI
The ability of cover crops to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus losses from arable land in southern Scandinavia and Finland
Helena Aronsson,Elly Møller Hansen,Ingrid K. Thomsen,Jian Liu,A. F. Ogaard,H. Känkänen,Barbro Ulén +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a review summarizes current knowledge from the literature and experimental studies on the role of cover crops (CCs) in reducing nitrogen (N) leaching and phosphorus (P) losses to waters under the marine and humid continental climate conditions of southern Scandinavia and Finland.
