Journal ArticleDOI

Impact of electromagnetic stirring upon weld quality of Al/Ti dissimilar materials resistance spot welding

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of electromagnetic stirring (EMS) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the Al/Ti resistance spot weld was investigated and compared to those in an Al/Al resistance spot welding joint, and the effects of the welding current, welding time, and electrode force upon the tensile shear properties were also studied.
Journal ArticleDOI

Feasibility study of dissimilar joining of aluminum alloy 5052 to pure copper via thermo-compensated resistance spot welding

TL;DR: In this paper, a parametric study was performed to investigate the feasibility of dissimilar Al/Cu joining by a thermo-compensated resistance spot welding process, and the tensile shear properties of the joints were found to be affected by both the weld's physical properties and metallurgical factors: (1) increasing heat input, the nugget size and indentation increased, which led to the failure mode of the joint to change from interfacial failure to pull-out mode.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characteristics of shunting in resistance spot welding for dissimilar unequal-thickness aluminum alloys under large thickness ratio

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported the shunting characteristics of dissimilar aluminum alloys 2219/5A06 of unequal-thickness for the resistance spot welding (RSW) process.
Journal ArticleDOI

The role of the partial melting zone in the nugget growth process of unequal-thickness dissimilar aluminum alloy 2219/5A06 resistance spot welding

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of the partial melting zone on nugget growth in aluminum alloys' resistance spot welding (RSW) process was investigated by exerting same welding schedule on dissimilar 2219/5A06 aluminum alloy combination (of unequal-thickness) and commercial pure aluminum 1060 with the same gauge.
Journal ArticleDOI

Shunting characteristics in triangular arranged resistance spot welding of dissimilar unequal-thickness aluminum alloys

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the shunting characteristics of resistance spot welding in unequal-thickness 2219 and 5A06 aluminum alloys when three spot welds are arranged in a triangular pattern.
