Journal ArticleDOI
Ultrafiltration membrane cell recycle for continuous culture of Propionibacterium
TL;DR: Rheological studies showed that at cell mass concentrations above 90-100 g/1 the fermentation broth viscosity increased rapidly and changed its behaviour from Newtonian to pseudoplastic, and the use of an adequate cell bleed rate allowed the cell concentration to be maintained at a desirable value and consequently to stabilize the reactor operation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Kinetics of liquid membrane extraction in systems with variable distribution coefficient
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of a variable distribution coefficient on the calculation of mass transfer coefficients in liquid membranes is analyzed, and the results show that the deviation between the values of the mass transfer coefficient calculated by using either a variable or a constant distribution coefficient depends on the region of the equilibrium curve considered.
Book ChapterDOI
Sustainable Power Generation from Salinity Gradient Energy by Reverse Electrodialysis
TL;DR: In this article, the Gibbs free energy of two aqueous streams with different saline concentrations is spontaneous and releases energy (Gibbs free energy), and the global theoretically obtainable power from salinity gradient energy due to World’s rivers discharge into the oceans has been estimated to be within the range of 1.4-2.6 TW.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of phenomena underlying the removal of micropollutants during water treatment by nanofiltration using multivariate statistical analysis
TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed multivariate statistically-based models for the comprehension of the phenomena underlying the removal of several micropollutants during drinking water treatment, using projection to latent structures (PLS) modeling to describe the apparent rejection as well as adsorption using specific descriptors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optimisation of arsenate removal from water by an integrated ion-exchange membrane process coupled with Fe co-precipitation
TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of an ion-exchange membrane process for arsenate removal, consisting in integrating Donnan dialytic transport of arsenic with its simultaneous precipitation in a separate receiver compartment, was investigated.
