Journal ArticleDOI

Microplastics in an urban wastewater treatment plant: The influence of physicochemical parameters and environmental factors

TL;DR: Influent wastewater with high concentrations of suspended solids proved to have a low MP burden with a larger MP size, possibly due to a hetero-aggregation with particulate matter.
Journal ArticleDOI

Membrane bioreactor and rapid sand filtration for the removal of microplastics in an urban wastewater treatment plant

TL;DR: The role of two different wastewater treatment technologies in the abatement of microplastics from the final effluent of an urban wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is discussed, i.e., membrane bioreactor technology (MBR) and rapid sand filtration (RSF).
Journal ArticleDOI

Microplastics and microfibers in the sludge of a municipal wastewater treatment plant

TL;DR: In this article, microplastics and synthetic microfibers were extracted by flotation, using a concentrated solution of sodium chloride and several stainless steel sieves, after an initial screening performed with a trinocular microscope, the samples were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry and a differential scanning calorimeter, this last technique only for the identified subsamples.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydrocyclone as a cleaning device for anaerobic sludge digesters in a wastewater treatment plant

TL;DR: In this paper, the use of the hydrocyclone technology as an alternative for desludging was described, and the coarse fraction recovered before the hydrocycle plant contained potentially biodegradable matter that could be used as soil amendment, with low concentrations of heavy metals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Principal factor and hierarchical cluster analyses for the performance assessment of an urban wastewater treatment plant in the Southeast of Spain.

TL;DR: Both principal factor analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis are applied in an urban WWTP situated in the Southeast of Spain, a zone with special characteristics related to the geochemical background composition of water and an important use of fertilizers.
