A system, method and various software products provide for automatic deferral and review of e-mail messages and other data objects in a networked computer system, by applying business rules to the messages as they are processed by post offices. The system includes rule enforcing post offices that store a plurality of business rules derived from business communication policies. The rule enforcing post offices receive messages from client applications and from other post offices and apply the business rules with a rule engine. The rule engine determines a set of actions, specified by business rules that are fired, to be applied to each message. The rule engine provides the actions to a distribution engine, which executes a highest priority action. Actions include releasing, deleting, returning, forwarding, or gating the message. Gating forwards the message to a gatekeeper, an administrator assigned to review messages for conformity with business policies or for other reasons. The gated messages are received by the gatekeeper at a gatekeeping post office. A gatekeeper can review the gated messages, and then manually release, delete, return, or further gate the message. Alternatively, if the gatekeeper does not review a gated message with a specified time period, the message is automatically reviewed by the gatekeeping post office with its own set of business rules. Having multiple post offices with independent sets of business rules allows for distributed and hierarchical review and gating of the messages. The system can route any type of data object, and apply the business rules to such objects in a similar manner.

Automated post office based rule analysis of e-mail messages and other data objects for controlled distribution in network environments

A method, apparatus, and storage medium for transmitting e-mail attachments from a sender of a network to at least one recipient of the network. According to a preferred embodiment, an attachment is stored in a storage device visible to the network and relatively local to the sender, the attachment having a unique network address. An attachment reference is generated, comprising the network address of the attachment. The attachment reference is transmitted from the sender to the at least one recipient.

System and method for analyzing and utilizing data, by executing complex analytical models in real time

We provide a system for issuing identification documents to a plurality of individuals, comprising a first database, a first server, and a workstation. The first database stores a plurality of digitized images, each digitized image comprising a biometric image of an individual seeking an identification document. The first server is in operable communication with the first database and is programmed to send, at a predetermined time, one or more digitized images from the first database to a biometric recognition system, the biometric recognition system in operable communication with a second database, the second database containing biometric templates associated with individuals whose images have been previously captured, and to receive from the biometric recognition system, for each digitized image sent, an indicator, based on the biometric searching of the second database, as to whether the second database contains any images of individuals who may at least partially resemble the digitized image that was sent. The a workstation is in operable communication with the first server and is configured to permit a user to review the indicator and to make a determination as to whether the individual is authorized to be issued an identification document or to keep an identification document in the individual's possession.

Systems and methods for managing and detecting fraud in image databases used with identification documents

A system, method and carrier medium for modeling a Financial Service Organization (FSO) business in a computer software program and for storing the model of the FSO business in a database. An object-oriented business model representing the FSO may be created and stored in a business model database. The one or more business objects included in the business model may be configured to describe various products, methods, functions and properties associated with an FSO. A process map business object may describe a process workflow. The process workflow may identify a sequence of tasks to be performed by an FSO production system to process an FSO transaction. The sequence of tasks associated with an FSO transaction may be consistent with pre-defined business logic for the transaction. Selecting a task object from a plurality of task objects and transferring the task object to a process map display representing the process map business object may create the process workflow. Additional task objects may be transferred and connected to the transferred task objects in a manner consistent with the business logic. An FSO production system, which may be configured to process FSO transactions, may access the database to request data associated with a particular FSO transaction. On receiving the requested data from the business model database, the FSO production system may complete the processing of the FSO transaction.

A framework for use with object-oriented programming systems provides a common message processing system structure that can be placed on any OOP platform and be configured to support any e-mail message protocol standard or specific mail server function. The framework defines an e-mail message as a number of distinct objects, each of which contains information that describes some portion of the message. All messages received by a system in which the framework is implemented are defined on this core object structure. Another set of objects and methods define the processing steps required for a mail server to process a message. A message is received as a class of message objects, which are assigned a message type that determines the subsequent processing steps to which the message object is subjected. As a message is processed, the objects of which it is comprised are changed, so that the message processing can be interrupted and then resumed without loss or duplication of processing steps.

Object oriented mail server framework mechanism

Multiple links to the same object are managed by storing the attributes of the object in only one place. Each directory which links to the object has an object attribute table; each table has a number of entries all capable of storing the attributes of the files linked to the directory. One of the entries in a directory linked to a file stores the attributes of that file, called the master entry; other entries in the same or other directories that also link to the same file have slave entries capable of storing the attributes but not storing the attributes in their respective object attribute table. The file need only address the master entry. The master entry may point to the other slave entries which may point back to the master or to other slave entries as determined by a pointer protocol. When the master entry is to be deallocated, another of the qualified slave entries receives the attribute information and the file is updated to reflect that a new master has been declared. According to the pointer protocol, other slave entries may also be updated.

Management of multiple links to a file in a file system

Synchronization software in a computer operating system evaluates with respect to an exposure goal the ages of byte stream files queued for synchronization, and dynamically adjusts synchronization (“sync”) capacity in response to the evaluation. The synchronization of byte stream files occurs at rates responsive to the sync capacity. Several parameters are used to adjust sync capacity: a lead time, the number of active sync tasks, and the priority of the sync tasks. These parameters are adjusted in a manner to impact system performance to the least extent possible.
