Journal ArticleDOI
Migratory birds and spread of West Nile virus in the Western Hemisphere.
TL;DR: The pattern of outbreaks in southern Europe suggests that viremic migratory birds may also contribute to movement of the virus, and West Nile virus has the potential to cause outbreaks throughout both temperate and tropical regions of the Western Hemisphere.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cause and effect in population declines of migratory birds
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present 14 such predictions, and review data currently available to assess their relevance to observed declines in Nearctic migrant populations, showing that populations of many species of Nearctic migrants appear to be controlled by wintering-ground events.
Journal ArticleDOI
Wood thrush postfledging movements and habitat use in Northern Virginia
TL;DR: It is suggested that postfledging movements in Wood Thrushes are keyed by the availability of food resources and the presence of conspecifics, although other factors may play a role.
Journal ArticleDOI
Managing the Abundance and Diversity of Breeding Bird Populations through Manipulation of Deer Populations
TL;DR: Populations of deer in protected areas are capable of causing significant shifts in the composition and abundance of bird communities that can be reversed by increasing the density and diversity of understory vegetation, which can be brought about by reducing deer density.
