THE PRESENT STATE OF THE COMPARATIVE STUDY OF RELIGIOUS ETHICS: An Update
TL;DR: A survey of developments over the last forty years suggests that little progress has been made in the development of comparative religious ethics as a discipline as discussed by the authors, suggesting that a way forward will involve marrying ethicists' interest in arguments with close attention to the more and less formal structures by which groups of people organize the giving and taking of reasons.

Response to papers for “ethnography, anthropology, and comparative religious ethics” focus
TL;DR: The Center for the Study of World Religions (CSWR) project represented here through papers by Thomas Lewis, Aaron Stalnaker, Hans Lucht, and Lee Yearley (with responses) was motivated by the judgment that the trend toward a focus on virtue ethics, with attendant concern for techniques of forming selves, creates an opportunity for a dialogue with ethnographers as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
James Turner Johnson, Just War Tradition, and Forms of Practical Reasoning
TL;DR: This article argued that Johnson's work models a particular form of practical reasoning: a kind of historical casuistry, which is not only descriptive, but normative in nature, and pointed out distinctions drawn by Johnson between his own model and those in which just war thinking is tied to one or more philosophically or theologically grounded principles.
