Risk perception – issues for flood management in Europe
R. A. Bradford,John O'Sullivan,I. M. van der Craats,J. Krywkow,Pia Rotko,Juha Aaltonen,Marino Bonaiuto,S De Dominicis,Kerry A. Waylen,K. Schelfaut +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the role of public perception in developing flood risk communication strategies in Europe is explored, and recommendations are identified for improving flood risk management plans through public participation, in which risk perception is conceptualised as a pillar of social resilience.
Journal ArticleDOI
Studying the Maximum Instantaneous Non-Synchronous Generation in an Island System—Frequency Stability Challenges in Ireland
TL;DR: In this paper, the frequency stability challenges at high and ultra-high wind penetrations were examined in the All-Island system (AIS) and the impact of both largest infeed loss and network fault induced wind turbine active power dips was examined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Old values, new media
John O'Sullivan,Ari Heinonen +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, European journalists in 11 countries were asked, in an informed survey, to respond to questions concerning these developments and the results elaborate some of the tensions between "traditional" journalism, rooted in "old" media, and the new perceptions, expectations and pressures of digital journalism in an increasingly...
Journal ArticleDOI
Flow resistance of emergent vegetation
TL;DR: In this article, an alternative equation form is suggested, in which the resistance coefficient is related to measurable vegetation characteristics and can incorporate bed roughness when this is significant, which is confirmed by comparison of predicted and measured stage-discharge relationships for flow through artificial cylindrical stems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Frequency Response of Power Systems With Variable Speed Wind Turbines
TL;DR: In this paper, the frequency response capability of variable speed wind turbines is evaluated on a test system and the effectiveness of wind turbines' contribution to system inertial response is evaluated in the context of future system requirements.
