Abstract: The general expression for the ponderomotive Hamiltonian is used to obtain the quasi‐static quasi‐neutral density change caused by the ponderomotive force of a cold magnetoplasma wave of arbitrary frequency and polarization: δn (x) =−[‖E(x) ‖2−‖B(x) ‖2] /4π (Te+Ti).
