Seismic assessment of cold-formed steel stud bracing wall panels using direct displacement based design approach

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented the assessment of the bracing capacity of cold-formed steel stud bracing wall panels using a direct-displacement based design (DDBD) approach and compared with results from conventional nonlinear time history analyses (NLTHA) to confirm the validity of the adopted approach.
Journal ArticleDOI

A comparative study of two approaches for supporting optimal network location queries

TL;DR: Two complementary approaches are introduced, namely EONL and BONL, which enable efficient computation of ONL queries with datasets of uniform and skewed distributions, respectively, and demonstrate the importance of considering network distance (rather than p-norm distance) with OnL queries.

Electromagnetic Imaging System for Weapon Detection and Classification

TL;DR: A system developed at Newcastle University using a walk-through metal detector with a giant magneto-resistive sensor array to measure the spatial magnetic field is used and promising results indicating the feasibility of using electromagnetic imaging to identify objects have been found.
Journal ArticleDOI

Seismic retrofit of precast soft-storey building using diagonal steel-shape memory alloy bracing device: Numerical investigation:

TL;DR: In this paper, a diagonal steel-shape memory alloy bracing device is proposed for seismic retrofitting of vulnerable building frame structure, which is put in series with steel bars, and is used for building frame construction.
