Dynamic Managerial Capabilities Review and Assessment of Managerial Impact on Strategic Change

Despite numerous testimonials of first movers, the underlying mechanisms of organizations’ big data analytics (BDA) usage deserves close investigation. Our study addresses two essential research questions: (1) How does organizational BDA usage affect value creation? and (2) What are key antecedents of organizational-level BDA usage? We draw on dynamic capabilities theory to conceptualize BDA use as a unique information processing capability that brings competitive advantage to organizations. Furthermore, we employ the technology–organization–environment (TOE) framework to identify and theorize paths via which factors influence the actual usage of BDA. Family Ownership, Board Independence, and R&D Investment

Prior findings on the association between top management team (TMT) functional diversity and firm performance have been inconsistent. We consider the moderating effects of internal context (colocation of TMT members) and external context (environmental uncertainty) on the TMT diversity-firm performance relationship. Additionally, we consider both dominant and intrapersonal functional diversity. In our results from 207 U.S. firms in 11 industries, the effects of TMT functional diversity on firm performance become more positive as the proportion of TMT members with offices in the same location increases. The effects of intrapersonal functional diversity also become more positive as environmental uncertainty increases.

Top Management Team Functional Background Diversity and Firm Performance: Examining The Roles of Team Member Colocation and Environmental Uncertainty

This study examines the effect of top management team (TMT) international exposure on the formation of international alliances. We develop our arguments based on relational capital theory to suggest that top executives with international exposure are critical to firms’ international alliance formation. Supporting this view, we find that TMT international exposure is positively associated with the formation of international alliances. Moreover, we find evidence to suggest that the effect of TMT international exposure on international alliance formation is more positive as the level of environmental uncertainty increases. We discuss implications and directions for future research.

Top Management Team Diversity and Firm Performance:Moderating Effects of Environmental Uncertaintyand Physical Proximity

4차 산업혁명과 최근 코로나19사태는 비대면 사회를 앞당기면서 정보통신기술의 융⋅복합 현상을 더욱 가속화 시키고 있다. 이러한 동태적 환경에서 연구개발 투자는 기업의 생존을 위해 필수이나 중소기업의 경우 연구개발 투자를 통한 기술 혁신 성과 창출에 어려움을 겪고 있다. 특히 기업 내부자원에 초점을 두어 연구개발 투자가 기술 혁신성과에 미치는 효과와 무형자원의 중요성을 체계적으로 분석한 연구는 미흡한 수준이다. 이에 본 연구는 자원기반론을 토대로 VRIO 조건과 특허 등록요건을 적용하여 연구개발 투자, 박사연구원 비중, 검사 장비 수준이 각각 지식재산권에 영향을 미치는지를 살펴본 후 추가적으로 이들 자원 간의 상호작용효과를 중소기업기술통계조사 데이터 12,759개를 사용하여 실증분석 하였다. 분석 결과, 주효과인 연구개발 투자, 박사연구원 비중은 지식재산권과 정(+)의 관계가 나타났고, 상호작용효과의 경우 연구개발 투자와 지식재산권 간의 관계에 대해 박사 연구원 비중과 검사장비 수준이 모두 정(+)의 조절효과가 있었다. 이는 중소기업은 향후 연구개발 투자 시 무형자원인 지식자본을 중심으로 선제적으로 가치를 창출할 수 있는 혁신 전략이 필요함을 의미한다. 아울러 지식재산권 기반의 기업 경쟁력 강화는 효과적인 부가가치 창출을 가능하게 하는 대안이 될 수 있으므로 국가차원의 성장전략으로 채택할 것을 검토해볼 필요가 있음을 시사한다.
