En la Espana de principios del siglo XX la posicion ideologica del padre Andres Manjon contra las escuelas laicas desencadeno una persecucion a toda idea de renovacion pedagogica. Aprovechando el analisis de contenido de la obra Las escuelas laicas (1910) introducimos las posiciones divergentes de un debate ideologico entre las "Dos Espanas", por un lado, la izquierda liberal, laica, renovadora y europeista y, por el otro, la derecha conservadora, catolica, tradicional y espanolizante. A traves de un analisis critico de discurso historico, destacamos que esta disertacion contra las escuelas laicas sirvio para solidificar una posicion integrista catolica y nacional; una mentalidad ortodoxa que aun es salvaguardada por la derecha espanola y que es utilizada como dispositivo para defender la unidad territorial del Estado

Integrismo religioso y nacional en España. El ataque contra las escuelas laicas de Andrés Manjón (1910)

RESUMENEl estudio tiene por objetivo elaborar un bosquejo analitico para re-pensar una educacion fisica critica (EFC). Mediante una metodologia centrada en el analisis de las teorias criticas, se reflexiona sobre el sentido de la educacion fisica escolar y se aportan reflexiones para potenciar una educacion mas emancipadora. Se aportan ideas promovedoras de un cambio didactico, metodologico y pedagogico consciente y profundo. Los resultados muestran una baja actitud reflexivo-critica en la educacion –fisica– a causa de la no-intencionalidad critica de propuestas. Por todo ello, censuramos las recientes metodologias autodenominadas renovadoras y que dicen promover la libertad –solamente desde la dimension practica y de la obediencia ciega al curriculo–. Proponemos abrir el debate hacia una EFC mas incisiva contra las bases ideologicas neoliberales que sustentan el sistema educativo actual. Incidimos en el hecho que los docentes tienen que ayudar a este cambio de paradigma, mediante la intervencion en el aula.PALABRAS CLAVE: educacion, educacion fisica critica, emancipacion escolar, pedagogia critica, teoria critica. ABSTRACTThis article aims to develop an analytical sketch intended to re-think a critical physical education (EFC). From a methodology focused on the analysis of the critical theories, we reflect on the meaning of physical education in school. We offer suggestions for teachers are given in order to reflect in the possibilities of a shift towards a more democratic and emancipatory education of people. We discuss ideas that can illuminate a change: didactic, methodological, and educational too. It should be more conscious and deep that has been evident so far. Results show a low reflective-critical attitude in -physic- education that is caused for non-intentionality critical of proposals. Critical proposals must allow change. We criticize the recent methodologies that call themselves new and claim to promote freedom of students, but from the practical dimension and blind obedience to the curriculum. We propose to open the debate towards a more incisive EFC against the neoliberal ideological bases that support the current educational system We insist on the fact that teachers have to help this paradigm shift through classroom intervention.KEY WORDS: education, critical pedagogy, critical physical education, critical theory, school emancipation.

The Origins of Football in Spain: From the First Press Appearance to the Constitution of the First Clubs (1868–1903)

The collaborative game of Prisoner’s Base (also called Prisoner’s Bars) has formed part of the cultural repository of Western civilisation from very remote times. Nevertheless, the anthropological, sociological and educational roots of this game have been only very slightly researched. Starting with a cultural assessment of its origins, we attempt to ascertain exactly why this physical-recreational game has remained practically unaltered over the centuries. The study adopts an approach that covers historical-genealogical and interdisciplinary phenomenological aspects (the latter concerning anthropology, sociology and education), supported by a broad-ranging documentary review of primary sources. The results lead us to sustain that, within the internal logic of Prisoner’s Base, there are the underlying socialising codes of contemporary education, through which its lasting presence guarantees the theory of the «process of civilisation» in the West. This interpretation also contributes to valuing its phenomenological comprehension within the history of physical games and the role that these play in society.

El juego del marro: análisis de la lógica interna y posibilidades educativas

For a long time, the game of Prisoner’s Bars or Prisoner’s Base has been considered for youth and occidental educators an excellent way of recreation and physical hardening. The main objective of this article is the historical and social analysis of prisoner’s base game. This analysis allows us to obtain a cultural approach of the institutionalization process of physical games in the contemporary school. The context of the study is the civilization and social construction of a bourgeois model of values. The methodology is based on a literature review of primary sources and the hermetic analysis built from other historicist related studies. The acquired results make reference to the Prisoner’s game in Spain since the sixteenth century. It was confirmed its important role in the amount of games played by young people during the nineteenth and the beginning of twentieth century’s. However, it was also used as a recreational-educational game during physical education classes. This use in education entails the apparition of rules avoiding the violent features of the game. Besides, this game was a substitute of football when there was no ball and it was a symbolism of regenerationism and national identity. In conjunction with these characteristics, it also appears its disciplined character, its complexity –higher than in numerous team sports–, its war origins, its use as healthy activity and its mixed gender practice.  The main conclusion of this analysis is that Prisoner’s game was the first collaboration-oppositional team game with coeducational use. In addition, it is inferred that its practice decreased due to the English sports importation, which has more detailed rules, especially soccer. Nowadays, the use of Prisoner’s game could improve the competence work; besides it is beneficial to enhance additional abilities related with cognition and motor skills.

Early feminist movements in different fields won’t appear until the end of nineteenth century. One of these fields is sport, which includes chess: the object of study of this article. Using a methodology based on hermeneutic analysis of the principal information sources, it is possible to conclude that the introduction of women in chess associations toke place in the middle of the nineteenth century in England. In Spain, Barcelona led this practice. Spanish chess societies include women at the beginnings of Twentieth century, but it was not until the thirties when significant female movements appear in this sport.
