Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative fatigue behavior and toughness of remelted and annealed highly crosslinked polyethylenes.
TL;DR: This study confirms that annealing preserves mechanical properties better than remelting from both fatigue and fracture resistance points of view, and it remarks that a suitable selection of irradiation and stabilization conditions is needed to achieve optimal mechanical performances of ultra high molecular weight polyethylenes for each specific total joint replacement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of carbon nanotubes and graphene as reinforcements for UHMWPE-based composites in arthroplastic applications: A review.
TL;DR: The performance of these new carbonaceous composites allows us to conclude that these materials have overcome a first step on the way to developing into an alternative to the current HXLPEs used in orthopedic applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of gamma-irradiation on UHMWPE/MWNT nanocomposites
M. J. Martínez-Morlanes,Pere Castell,V. Martínez-Nogués,M.T. Martínez,Pablo J. Alonso,José Antonio Puértolas +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, pristine multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were incorporated into ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) in different concentrations (1, 3 and 5 ¼ ) using a ball milling process.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tribological and mechanical properties of graphene nanoplatelet/PEEK composites
TL;DR: In this article, a 3-phase model of the polymer matrix structure is interpreted in terms of a 3 phase model, in which the crystalline phase fluctuates from 39 to 34% upon GNP addition, and the Raman G band shows a progressive increment proportional to the bulk GNP percentage.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of gamma-irradiation on few-layered graphene materials
Alejandro Ansón-Casaos,José Antonio Puértolas,F.J. Pascual,Javier Hernández-Ferrer,Pere Castell,Ana M. Benito,Wolfgang K. Maser,M.T. Martínez +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of γ-irradiation on the structure and composition of chemically synthesized few-layered graphene materials was studied, where three different irradiation doses of 60, 90 and 150 kGy were applied.
