The race to gain competitive advantage through the formulation of a sustainable business strategy is key for the survival in the global business sphere. Even more importantly is the quest to deploy an effective green strategy to combat the numerous negative impact industrialization has on the environment. Researches pointed out the role of leaders and stakeholder's engagement in bringing about reform. This research focuses on how to build a robust psychological capital within an organization through the leader's transformative ability in combating environmental issues. This is necessary because research related to green transformational leadership and the effect on green team resilience has not been considered in literature. Drawing from the combination of three theories; broaden‐and‐build theory, job demand–resource theory, and conservation of resource theory, this study contributes to the extant literature by testing the effect of green transformational leadership via the mediating role of green work engagement to green team resilience. Using Amos 20 version to analyze 351 questionnaires that were collected from employees in four and five star hotels in Turkey, the result reviews that green transformational leadership has a positive effect on green work engagement and green team resilience, and green work engagement fully mediates the relationship between the variables. The theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Structural empowerment, psychological empowerment, and work engagement: A cross-country study

The objective of this study is to investigate the role of emotional intelligence and empowering leadership in enhancing psychological empowerment and work engagement in private hospitals.,A total of 500 questionnaires were distributed to staff nurses at five private hospitals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 100 questionnaires to each hospital, with an achieved response rate of 34.8%.,The results show statistically significant positive relationships between emotional intelligence, empowering leadership, psychological empowerment and work engagement. The relationship between emotional intelligence and work engagement and psychological empowerment and work engagement were not significant.,The study found that employees who have a high level of emotional intelligence and the positive stimulus of empowering leadership demonstrate enhanced psychological empowerment and work engagement.,A better understanding of the role of EI and EL in enhancing psychological empowerment and work engagement could help hospitals reduce turnover among nurses and improve their relationships with patients, as well as maintaining competitive advantage.,The study provides evidence to support the effect of EI on empowering leadership, psychological empowerment and work engagement in private hospitals.

Transformational leadership and work engagement: Exploring the mediating role of structural empowerment

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are a key pillar of the European economy because they play an important role in generating growth, employment, and value added. However, SMEs cannot access funding from sources such as issuing securities because they do not meet the listing requirements of official markets. This is why these firms are forced to cover their financial needs by borrowing from banks and reinvesting profits. For this reason, several alternative markets have been launched in Europe. In the Spanish case, two alternative markets have been created (one equity trading market and one debt market). In this chapter, these markets are presented for the purpose of analyzing to what extent they are a real solution to the financing problems faced by Spanish SMEs. This research shows that these two markets follow different paths, although for the time being, they are not capable of reaching a large number of companies. Are the New Sources for Financing SMEs a Reality or a Chimera?: The Spanish Case Study

Since the outbreak of the financial crisis in 2007, Spain entered a period of wide-ranging economic and social changes. Spanish financial institutions have been implicated in the real-estate bubble, and they were highly exposed to uncertainty and the steady decline of real estate businesses. As a result, the Spanish banking system has undergone a major transformation process. It has been necessary to restructure many institutions, so today the sector is smaller, and it has been forced to rethink its business strategy to survive. The social cost of all these changes has been particularly high, and financial exclusion has increased in Spain from the beginning of the crisis. This chapter shows the changes that have taken place in the Spanish banking system from the beginning of the crisis, the social implications ensued, and the challenges currently faced by the new banking industry that has emerged since the crisis.

Fragility of the Spanish Banking System and Financial Exclusion: Lessons Learned From the Global Crisis and New Challenges for the 21st Century Banking Sector

This chapter aims to contrast if internationalization is a key element to explain the performance of a company, especially focusing on small and medium-size entreprises (SMEs), and to identify if a business model (BM) based on exports leads to more successful companies. There is a broad theoretical body and a representative set of methodological approaches in this area of knowledge; however, the conclusions reached are very different and in many cases hardly comparable, being limited to a specific temporal and geographical scope. For the purpose of giving a step further in the investigation of BM based on exports, the SMEs from the Autonomous Community of Galicia (Spain) are analyzed through an exploratory research over the 2002-2013 period. The empirical analysis takes into account a range of firm variables linked to both firm management and fixed factors, such as the type of sector, the location, and the economic situation.
