Journal ArticleDOI

Inhibitory neurons in the superior colliculus mediate selection of spatially-directed movements.

TL;DR: In this paper, the role of the superior colliculus (SC) neurons in spatial choice is examined. But, the authors did not examine the contribution of SC neurons to the selection of opposing spatial targets.
Journal ArticleDOI

Classical center-surround receptive fields facilitate novel object detection in retinal bipolar cells

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors found that bipolar glutamate release emphasizes objects that emerge in the receptive field (RF) during continuous motion, and that the alteration in signal dynamics induced by novel objects was more pronounced than edge enhancement.
Posted ContentDOI

Inhibitory midbrain neurons mediate decision making

TL;DR: This study examines how functional neural circuitry in the output layers of the midbrain superior colliculus mediates spatial choice, an SC-dependent tractable form of decision making and provides mechanistic evidence for competitive inhibition between populations representing discrete choices.
Journal ArticleDOI

Triggering eye movements in mice to understand stable visual perception

TL;DR: The data doesn't support the hypothesis that the mice‐adapted optic flow stimulus would elicit voluntary eye movements, and the results were relevant because they say something about the potential of mice as models to understand how the authors make sense of a moving world when they ourselves move in it.
