– The purpose of this paper is to investigate the current literature base of critical success factors (CSFs) of enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementations, provide a systematic compilation of CSFs, and present a new comprehensive taxonomy of CSFs for ERP system implementation., – This paper compiles literature that highlighted possible references to CSFs for ERP implementation projects. Given that the purpose of this paper is to achieve a depth of understanding of the various CSFs already identified by other researchers, “content analysis” is used. Four stages of content analysis are adopted to collect and analyse the literature, i.e. data collection, open coding, axial coding, and selective coding., – By analyzing all CFSs mentioned in literature during the last ten years (1999‐2008), taxonomy of ERP CSFs implementation was formulated. In total 17 CSFs were identified, which is then categorized into five main categories., – Literature is collected from selected databases and journals from 1999 to 2008., – This paper is significant because taxonomy helps us organize the knowledge. Taxonomy can help the researchers to make their search easier by assigning CSFs to a category and defining relationships between those categories., – The output of this paper will help future researchers to increase identification of related studies in the literature review phase of their work.

Successful enterprise resource planning implementation: taxonomy of critical factors

Organizations perceive ERP as a vital tool for organizational competition as it integrates dispersed organizational systems and enables flawless transactions and production. This review examines studies investigating Critical Success Factors (CSFs) in implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Keywords relating to the theme of this study were defined and used to search known Web engines and journal databases for studies on both implementing ERP systems per se and integrating ERP systems with other well- known systems (e.g., SCM, CRM) whose importance to business organizations and academia is acknowledged to work in a complementary fashion. A total of 341 articles were reviewed to address three main goals. This study structures previous research by presenting a comprehensive taxonomy of CSFs in the area of ERP. Second, it maps studies, identified through an exhaustive and comprehensive literature review, to different dimensions and facets of ERP system implementation. Third, it presents studies investigating CSFs in terms of a specific ERP lifecycle phase and across the entire ERP life cycle. This study not only reviews articles in which an ERP system is the sole or primary field of research, but also articles that refer to an integration of ERP systems and other popular systems (e.g., SCM, CRM). Finally it provides a comprehensive bibliography of the articles published during this period that can serve as a guide for future research.

Critical success factors in enterprise resource planning systems: Review of the last decade

This report is a review of work published in various journals on the topics of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) between 2005 and 28 May, 2010. A total of 154 articles from 49 journals were reviewed. This report intends to serve two goals. First, it will be useful to researchers who are interested in understanding and following the recent trends in the area of ERP. Finally, this report will be useful to both researchers and businesses or industries; because it seeks to highlight the current unanswered but justified research and development (R&D) questions raised in research papers for research and/or development needs. The report is summarized to identify key references in the form of literature reviews; thus, identifying key journals and other key forums such as conferences and societies in the field of ERP. The summary will also identify most cited authors by using a sample statistical report from Harzing’s Publish or Perish software. This report will also seek to address the issues and trends, including future trends of the ERP System Life Cycle (SLC) into six major and sub phases. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP): A Review Literature Report

The main goal of this research is to understand is there any difference between ERP implementation's CSF in developed and developing countries? Understanding this subject can help us to implement ERP systems properly in developing nations. This research showed that in developed and developing countries "Change Management" was most important factor and in developed countries "Country-related functional requirements" factor was less important factor and "Fit between ERP and business/process" was the least cited factor among developing nations. In last it concluded that national culture of developing countries has an impressive effect on ERP implementation in these countries. In other hand developing countries companies more depend on ERP vendors in compare to developed countries companies. In addition it seems developing countries underestimate business process reengineering (BPR) and fit between ERP and business/process factors in comparison with developed countries.

ERP systems may well count as the most important development in technology in the 1990s. There are many ERP success stories; equally there are as many failure stories. This article reviews current literature of the critical success factors (CSF) of ERP implementations. This review will be used in conjunction with the case of a UK furniture manufacturer’s (Company X) implementation of an ERP system. This artcile considers the factors that resulted in the failure of the ERP at Company X in the chartering phase of the implementation.

ERP systems may well count as the most important development in technology in the 1990s’. There are many ERP success stories; equally there are as many failure stories. However, organisations encounter obstacles when implementing ERP systems. This chapter intends to explore some of the problems that occur throughout the implementation of an ERP system. 

Through the exploration of the literature a framework is constructed considering Human, Organisational and Technical Considerations adjoined with Critical Success Factors when implementing ERP. Drawing on empirical evidences from a UK SME, this study then discusses and analyses each problem identified in the framework and its affect on the implementation of their ERP system. The findings of this paper suggests the fundamental challenge of ERP implementation is not technology but organisational and human problems, which, if not fully understood and addressed, can lead to ERP failure. Finally, this paper considers the critical success factors that resulted in the failure of the ERP at the case company in the chartering phase of the implementation.
 

It is hoped this chapter will assist in understanding that Human, Organisational and Technical Considerations adjoined with Critical Success Factors will encourage practitioners to address these problems and increase their chance of success during ERP implementation.

Using a combination of the work of Markus et al (2001) and Kim et al (2005), a framework is constructed of Human and Organisational and Technical problems in ERP Implementations during the project phase. Drawing on empirical evidences from a UK furniture manufacturer, this study then discusses and analyses each problem identified in the framework and its affect on the implementation of their ERP system. The findings of this paper reveal that the fundamental challenge of ERP implementation is not technology but organisational and human problems, which, if not properly comprehended and addressed, can lead to ERP failure. Understanding that organisational and human issues are extremely important will encourage practitioners to address these problems and succeed in their ERP system implementations.
