Journal ArticleDOI

Microstructure and oxidative degradation behavior of silicon carbide fiber Hi-Nicalon type S

TL;DR: In this article, polycarbosilane-derived SiC fibers, Nicalon, Hi-Nicalon and S, were exposed for 1 to 100 h at 1273-1773 K in air.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thermal stability of the low-oxygen-content silicon carbide fiber, Hi-NicalonTM

TL;DR: The Hi-NicalonTM fiber as mentioned in this paper is a low-oxygen SiC fiber, which was prepared by pyrolysis of polycarbosilane fibers cured with electron-beam irradiation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microstructure and Oxidation Behavior of Silicon Carbide Fibers Derived from Polycarbosilane

TL;DR: In this paper, polycarbosilane-derived SiC fibers were exposed for 1-100 h at 1273-1673 K in air, and three types of SiC fiber decreased in strength as the oxide layer thickness increased.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of Hydrogen Atmosphere on Pyrolysis of Cured Polycarbosilane Fibers

TL;DR: The mechanism of pyrolytic transformation of cured polycarbosilane fibers to SiC-based ceramics was investigated using TG/DTA analysis in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Properties of polycarbosilane-derived silicon carbide fibers with various C/Si compositions

TL;DR: In this paper, the polycarbosilane (PCS) fibers were cured by irradiation with an electron beam in a helium atmosphere and pyrolyzed at 1573 K under controlled conditions, and SiC fibers with C/Si of 0.84 to 1.68 were obtained.
