Finite element modeling of residual stresses in machining induced by cutting using a tool with finite edge radius

TL;DR: In this paper, a thermal elastic-viscoplastic finite element model is used to evaluate the residual stresses remaining in a machined component, and an improvement in the accuracy of the predicted residual stresses is obtained by using a modified Johnson-Cook material model augmented by a linearly elastic component.
Journal ArticleDOI

Progressive tool-wear mechanisms and their effects on chip-curl/chip-form in machining with grooved tools: an extended application of the equivalent toolface (ET) model

TL;DR: In this paper, a methodology for modeling chip-curl in machining with progressively worn grooved tools from measured cutting forces by using the equivalent toolface (ET) model is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Machining stability in turning operation when cutting with a progressively worn tool insert

TL;DR: In this article, an integrated experimental and analytical study has been conducted to examine changes in tool-wear with chatter instability for different cutting conditions and progressively worn cutting tools in turning operations.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

A Finite Element Analysis of Void Evolution in 2-D Machining

TL;DR: In this article, Zhang et al. studied the influence of cutting conditions on void nucleation, growth and coalescence in the machining process and found that void coalescence always occurs in the newly machined surface below the flank face of the tool and in the chip flowing around the chip-groove region near the upper end of the face land.
