A single phase induction motor control system employs power line assisted starting and runs at higher than power line frequency from an electronically generated inverter supply. This inverter supply is employed to provide an out of phase mains frequency signal to the run winding during starting in order to create the rotating magnetic field needed to start the motor. After the motor has started, the power line supply is disconnected from the start winding and the inverter supply frequency is increased gradually to a final value corresponding to the desired operating speed. In this system no phase shifting capacitors are needed to provide the out of phase starting voltage and the run winding is optimized for running conditions.

A motor control system for a rotating anode type of X-ray tube comprising an axially rotatable rotor provided with a radially extended target disc, an electrically wound stator encircling a portion of the rotor, and a motor controller electrically connected to the stator. The motor controller includes circuitry for initially energizing the stator a predetermined interval of time to accelerate rotation of the rotor, and then periodically energizing and de-energizing the stator at a frequency to utilize the inertia of the rotor and the target disc in maintaining the rotation of the rotor when the stator is deenergized.

Pulsed X-ray tube motor

A boost circuit for providing rapid acceleration of anode rotating motors for X-Ray tubes features provision for supplying to the motor for a limited period of time a relatively high power AC excitation at a frequency well above that corresponding to the rotation speed to be maintained during exposure. Once proper operating speed is reached, the motor power supply voltage is reduced to a safe power level with respect to the stator windings, and the frequency is reduced to correspond to the desired running speed during exposure. In the preferred embodiment the changeover is governed by means of an empirically adjusted timer; however, changeover may be controlled by a variety of means.

Control system for starter for X-ray tubes

The X-ray generator uses two sets of double thyristor pack series resonant inverters to supply power to the stator windings of the rotating anode drive motor. Each set alternately switches to provide maximum voltage but avoid both being switched together. Each stator winding (1,2) is connected via a capacitor (106,206) to a thyristor bridge circuit (107..111,207..211) used to detect the zero crossing point in the supply voltage waveform and switch power according to the zero crossing, a predetermined delay period (tq) and a control pulse from a clock synchronising supply (30,31) triggering pulse. Maximum current detector circuits (110212;210112) are also used to provide signals in the synchronising cycle and to provide a control inter-relationship between the supply to one stator winding and the other.

A circuit is used for actuating the driving motor of a rotary anode of an X-ray tube. The driving motor is an a.c. asynchronous motor fed from a converter. The converter is provided with actuating means which increase the frequency of the feeding voltage during the starting of the rotary anode from an initial value to an end value so as to provide the shortest possible starting time. The device of the present invention is a component part of an X-ray apparatus feeding an X-ray tube.
