Journal ArticleDOI
Cigarette smoking, tar yields, and non-fatal myocardial infarction: 14,000 cases and 32,000 controls in the United Kingdom. The International Studies of Infarct Survival (ISIS) Collaborators.
Sarah Parish,Rory Collins,Richard Peto,Linda Youngman,John H. Barton,K. Jayne,Robert Clarke,Paul N. Appleby,V Lyon,S. Cederholm-Williams +9 more
TL;DR: The present study indicates that the imminent change of tar yields in the European Union to comply with an upper limit of 12 mg/cigarette will not increase (and may somewhat decrease) the incidence of myocardial infarction, unless they indirectly help perpetuate tobacco use.
Book ChapterDOI

Sarah Parish,Rory Collins,Richard Peto,Linda Youngman,J. Barton,K. Jayne,Robert Clarke,Paul N. Appleby,V P Lyon,S. Cederholm-Williams,J. Marshall,Peter Sleight +11 more
TL;DR: Heart attacks (myocardial infarcts) are the main way tobacco kills young adults in the United Kingdom, and cigarettes also cause non-fatal heart attacks.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The ADVANCE trial as discussed by the authors was designed to provide reliable evidence on the balance of benefits and risks conferred by blood pressure lowering therapy and intensive glucose control therapy in high-risk diabetic patients, regardless of initial blood pressure or glucose concentrations.
