The article is aimed at presenting the survey respondents’ involvement in tourist activities, taking into account certain factors at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. The main objective may be divided into three direct aims, each of which consists of the determination of the factors that can influence the choice of tourist journeys: (1) organizational factors, (2) social-economic ones, and (3) sustainable development. The authors’ own research findings are used to verify the objective. The research was conducted in April and May 2020 with the use of a diagnostic survey method and a questionnaire. Five-hundred sixty-four respondents from Poland (Podlaskie, Masovian, and Lesser Poland Voivodeships) and 133 respondents from the US (New York State, New Jersey, and Illinois) took part in the research. It was divided into organizational, social-economic, and sustainable development related factors. The research confirmed, inter alia, a great impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the organization of tourist travels by the respondents in 2020. The issue presented in the article is a new one; it has not yet been a subject matter of research. That is the major reason the authors aimed to conduct it. What is a new methodological element in the article is the organization of some concepts concerning tourism and a presentation of the influence of COVID-19 on tourism. In the authors’ opinion, the issues presented are new and have a considerable impact on new trends in the development of tourism at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. The issue discussed is very broad, and the article does not exhaust it. The research findings are compared to the research findings reported by other authors, and standard deviations are calculated.

A study of the tourism industry's cash-driven resilience capabilities for responding to the COVID-19 shock

Objective : The goal of the paper is to present changes in entrepreneurship education (EE) in Poland at the lower level (gymnasium) and upper secondary (post-gymnasium) schools after the reform of the education system since 1999 in the light of national core curriculum (NCC) analysis. Research Design & Methods : The analysis of NCC was based on the method and criteria developed in the European research project Fifobi and includes four basic competencies related to the following: economy knowledge, business knowledge, social competences and self-competences associated with an entrepreneurial attitude. Findings: Analysis of distribution of content of the NCC for secondary schools indicates that competencies in the field of economic knowledge prevail, the contents of all entries in this field are based on the obligatory subjects â€œcivicsâ€ (lower-) â€œBasics of Entrepreneurshipâ€ [â€œBEâ€] (upper-secondary schools). Social and self-competencies are treated quite marginally in the NCC. Shortcomings in the business competencies, carried out mainly on a compulsory subject â€œEconomy in Practiceâ€ (â€œEPâ€), are also visible. Implications & Recommendations: The conducted research allowed to draw a number of recommendations and challenges for politicians and educators in EE in Poland. These should include, among others, the need to clarify the records of the NCC and modification of the NCC records in terms of entrepreneurship so that a greater emphasis was placed on social and personal competencies, not only the competencies based on economic knowledge. Contribution & Value Added: The paper can contribute to a better understanding of the level and structure of EE in Poland. An important added value of the analyses is their application value. The conclusions of the research may serve as guidelines to educational policy, not only in Poland but also in other countries transforming their economies, and to international comparative studies.

Hiking, downhill skiing and snowboarding are among the most popular forms of active tourism in mountainous areas. Their popularity and their mass scale do not only result from the presence of the appropriate landscape, but also from its appropriate development. The objective of the article is to attempt to assess the attractiveness of selected Central European countries in terms of winter sports and mountain hiking, to consider the opinions of students who live in Visegrad Group countries, as well as to evaluate the barriers to development of their competitive offers. According to respondents, the most attractive countries for winter sports are Austria and Slovakia, and the least attractive are Hungary, Romania and Lithuania. In turn, according to the students, the best conditions for mountain hiking are in Slovakia, Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland. In addition, respondents from particular countries assessed domestic offers highly.

The Attractiveness of Selected Central European Countries for Winter Sports and Mountain Hiking

Time free from education and work results in an increase in demand for tourist goods and services, however, an important factor of the realized demand and not only remaining in the sphere of dreams is purchasing power of the population (Gaworecki, 2007). Economic conditions mainly decide about consumption of tourist goods and services, which is often emphasized by various authors dealing with this topic, e.g. R. Brudnicki (2006). It must be added here that practising tourism does not have to be connected with huge expenditures, particularly when a tourist is a student and the standard of services is not high. However, the analyses conducted at the macroeconomic level confirm that there is a correlation between a high level of the economic development in a specific country and high tourist activity of its citizens. High tourist activity constitutes one of the basic features of the economically developed societies. The main objective of the article is to present the economic factors conditioning activity and tourist destinations among Chicago Polonia. Among these factors the following aspects have been differentiated: a level of income of the respondents, their expenditures on travelling, their assessment of the financial situation and professional status. The objective of the research was also to check whether a price, cost of travelling constitutes an important indicator for Chicago Polonia that influences tourist activity and their choice of tourist destination. The main research method was a quantitative and qualitative one. The method of diagnostic survey in the form of surveys in the amount of 1014 (including the internet survey online 347, the so-called CASI) among Polonia in the Polish and English language will be presented in the article. The results of the research confirming that the amount of money spent on journeys and frequency of travelling during the year as well as duration of tourist relaxation increase with monthly rising income levels whereas increased monthly income does not influence the choice of the tourist destination of Chicago Polonia will be presented in the thesis.

Quality of life constitutes an indicator of well-being, satisfaction or happiness resulting from one’s existence It is often referred to as a standard of living In general, it is contentment with the fulfilment of one’s needs The main objective of the article is to describe the selected components of the living standards and quality of life within the Polish community of the Greater Toronto Area which includes four regions: Halton, Peel, York and Durham The model of mutually affecting objective factors (standard of living) and subjective factors (quality of life) will be presented The specific factors (demographic, social, cultural, economic, legal, educational, geographical and health-related) included in field studies among the respondents and based on assigned indices influencing the quality of life in the Polish community of the Greater Toronto Area, will be demonstrated The major goal of the paper is to present an assessment of aspects related to health factors, both in terms of objective factors (standard of living) and subjective ones (quality of life) by Polonia living in the Greater Toronto Area Results will be shown on the basis of the survey questionnaire completed by 583 respondents The questions focused on, among other issues, access to the healthcare system, competence of medical staff and access to sports facilities Respondents also evaluated their satisfaction with their general health, both physical and mental, as well as the possibility of practicing sports associated with healthy lifestyle
