NA62 is a fixed-target experiment at the CERN SPS dedicated to measurements of rare kaon decays. Such measurements, like the branching fraction of the K+ → π+ ν bar nu decay, have the potential to bring significant insights into new physics processes when comparison is made with precise theoretical predictions. For this purpose, innovative techniques have been developed, in particular, in the domain of low-mass tracking devices. Detector construction spanned several years from 2009 to 2014. The collaboration started detector commissioning in 2014 and will collect data until the end of 2018. The beam line and detector components are described together with their early performance obtained from 2014 and 2015 data.

Proton Therapy Physics.

The design of CLIC is based on a two-beam scheme, where the short pulses of high power 30 GHz RF are extracted from a drive beam running parallel to the main beam. The 3 generation CLIC Test Facility (CTF3) will demonstrate the generation of the drive beam with the appropriate time structure, the extraction of 30 GHz RF power from this beam, as well as acceleration of a probe beam with 30 GHz RF cavities. The project makes maximum use of existing equipment and infrastructure of the LPI complex, which became available after the closure of LEP. In the first stage of the project, the "Preliminary Phase", the existing LIL linac and the EPA ring, both modified to suit the new requirements, are used to investigate the technique of frequency multiplication by means of interleaving bunches from subsequent trains. CTF3 Design Report

RIKEN has constructed a pulsed muon facility at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) in the UK under an international collaboration between RIKEN and RAL to promote muon science. We have confirmed that the facility produces a pulsed decay muon beam as well as a pulsed surface positive muon beam with the highest instantaneous intensity in the world and initiated the muon science research program, which includes muon catalyzed fusion, since June 1995.

This paper describes the program LISE which simulates the operation of fragment separators used to produce radioactive beams via fragmentation. Various aspects of the physical phenomena involved in the production of such radioactive beams are discussed. They include fragmentation cross-sections, energy losses in materials, ionic charge-state distributions, as well as ion optics calculations and acceptance effects. This program is highly user-friendly, and is designed not only to forecast intensities and purities for planning future experiments, but also for beam tuning during experiments where its results can be quickly compared to on-line data. In addition, several general-purpose tools such as a physical parameters calculator, a database of nuclear properties, and relativistic two-body kinematics calculations make it useful even for experiments with stable beams. After a general description of fragment separators, the principles underlying the calculations are presented, followed by a practical description of the program and its features. Finally, a few examples of calculations are compared to on-line data, both qualitatively and quantitatively.

The program LISE: a simulation of fragment separators

TRANSPORT is a first- and second-order matrix multiplication computer program intended for the design of static-magnetic beam transport systems. It has been in existence in various evolutionary versions since 1963. The present version, described in the manual given, includes both first- and second-order fitting capabilities. TRANSPORT will step through the beam line, element by element, calculating the properties of the beam or other quantities, described below, where requested. Therefore one of the first elements is a specification of the phase space region occupied by the beam entering the system. Magnets and intervening spaces and other elements then follow in the sequence in which they occur in the beam line. Specifications of calculations to be done or of configurations other than normal are placed in the same sequence, at the point where their effect is to be made.
