Journal ArticleDOI

Disruption to word or letter processing? The origins of case-mixing effects

TL;DR: The results suggest that case-mixing disruption effects are due to the introduction of inappropriate grouping between letters with the same size and case, and the disruption of transletter features, which support a model of visual lexical access based on the input from multiple visually based units.
Journal ArticleDOI

A connectionist model of alexia: Covert recognition and case mixing effects

TL;DR: In this article, a connectionist model was developed to simulate the production of phonological, semantic and orthographic lexical representations from an orthographic input code, and the model was used to simulate case mixing effects on both normal and alexic reading.
Journal ArticleDOI

Methodology and validity in the construction of computational models of cognitive deficits following brain damage

TL;DR: Issues relating both to the methodology and validity of attempts to model cognitive deficits using neural networks will be discussed, providing examples from several studies.
Book ChapterDOI

Modelling Early Stages of Word Recognition: Case and the Peripheral Dyslexias

TL;DR: The role of letter position information and the possible existence of visual units which are larger than single letters are looked at in the early stages of visual word recognition.
