TL;DR: The statistical message was rated higher on information value and also resulted in decreased intention to tan, decreased tanning behavior, and increased perceived susceptibility to skin cancer, while the narrative message increased perceptions of realism and also worked to decrease intentions to tan.

Gender, Belief in the Sexual Double Standard, and Sexual Talk in Heterosexual Dating Relationships

TL;DR: For instance, this paper found that individuals who self-disclose important information about sexual issues contribute to the effectiveness of sexual communication in a dating relationship, and that individuals with less traditional attitudes toward gender roles and sexuality indicated they discussed more sexual issues and disclosed more sexual information with their partners.
