Prevalence and prognostic effect of sarcopenia in breast cancer survivors: the HEAL Study
Adriana Villaseñor,Adriana Villaseñor,Rachel Ballard-Barbash,Kathy B. Baumgartner,Richard N. Baumgartner,Leslie Bernstein,Anne McTiernan,Anne McTiernan,Marian L. Neuhouser,Marian L. Neuhouser +9 more
TL;DR: Sarcopenia is associated with an increased risk of overall mortality in breast cancer survivors and may be associated with breast-cancer-specific mortality, and the development of effective interventions to maintain and/or increase skeletal muscle mass to improve prognosis in cancer survivors warrants further study.
Journal ArticleDOI
DEXA measures of body fat percentage and acute phase proteins among breast cancer survivors: a cross-sectional analysis.
Anne Dee,Roberta McKean-Cowdin,Marian L. Neuhouser,Cornelia M. Ulrich,Richard N. Baumgartner,Anne McTiernan,Kathy B. Baumgartner,Catherine M. Alfano,Rachel Ballard-Barbash,Leslie Bernstein +9 more
TL;DR: Assessment of NSAID use and weight control in reducing circulating inflammatory markers among survivors may be worthwhile to investigate in randomized intervention trials as higher inflammatory markers are associated with worse survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fatigue in breast cancer survivors two to five years post diagnosis: a HEAL Study report
Kathleen Meeske,Ashley Wilder Smith,Catherine M. Alfano,Bonnie A. McGregor,Anne McTiernan,Kathy B. Baumgartner,Kathleen E. Malone,Bryce B. Reeve,Rachel Ballard-Barbash,Leslie Bernstein +9 more
TL;DR: This study provides further support for the conclusion that a significant proportion of breast cancer survivors experience fatigue that compromises HRQOL two to five years post-diagnosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diet patterns and breast cancer risk in Hispanic and non-Hispanic white women: the Four-Corners Breast Cancer Study
Maureen A. Murtaugh,Carol Sweeney,Anna R. Giuliano,Jennifer S. Herrick,Lisa M. Hines,Tim Byers,Kathy B. Baumgartner,Martha L. Slattery +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the associations of dietary patterns (western, prudent, Native Mexican, Mediterranean, and Dieter) with risk for breast cancer in Hispanic women (757 cases, 867 controls) and non-Hispanic white women (1524 cases, 1598 controls) from the Four-Corners Breast Cancer Study were examined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Possible socioeconomic and ethnic disparities in quality of life in a cohort of breast cancer survivors
Deborah J. Bowen,Catherine M. Alfano,Bonnie A. McGregor,Alan Kuniyuki,Leslie Bernstein,Kathy Meeske,Kathy B. Baumgartner,Kathy B. Baumgartner,Josala Fetherolf,Josala Fetherolf,Bryce B. Reeve,Ashley Wilder Smith,Patricia A. Ganz,Anne McTiernan,Rachel Ballard Barbash +14 more
TL;DR: The data indicate that race/ethnicity influences psychosocial functioning in breast cancer survivors and can be used to identify need for targeted interventions to improve functioning.
