Journal ArticleDOI
Coastal Salinity and Water Management Practices in the Bengal Delta: A Critical Analysis to Inform Salinisation Risk Management Strategies in Asian Deltas
TL;DR: In this article , the authors analyse the evolution of water management practices and policy and how these have influenced salinity within the Ganges-Brahmaputra delta, with a conceptual framework of understanding developed to guide risk management strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prioratization of villages for providing safe water sources in disaster prone Sarankhola Upazila of Bagerhat district: a GIS based approach
TL;DR: In this article, a village level map of existing safe water options for Sarankhola Upazila has been prepared using data on number of water supply technologies for each village using ArcGIS 9.1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sediment delivery to sustain the Ganges-Brahmaputra delta under climate change and anthropogenic impacts
Jessica L. Raff,Steven L. Goodbred,J. Pickering,R. Sincavage,John C. Ayers,Md. Saddam Hossain,Carol A. Wilson,Chris Paola,Michael S. Steckler,Dhiman R. Mondal,Jean-Louis Grimaud,Céline Grall,K. G. Rogers,Kazi Matin Ahmed,S. Humayun Akhter,B. Carlson,Elizabeth L. Chamberlain,Jonathan M. Gilligan,R. P. Hale,Mahfuzur R. Khan,Md. Munsur Rahman,Lauren Williams +21 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a comprehensive field-based sediment budget was developed to quantitatively quantify the supply of Ganges-Brahmaputra river sediment under varying Holocene climate conditions and suggest that increased sediment delivery may be capable of offsetting accelerated sea-level rise.
Predicting Subsurface Architecture From Surface Channel Networks in the Bengal Delta
Zhongyuan Xu,Mahfuzur R. Khan,Kazi Matin Ahmed,Anwar Zahid,J. Hariharan,Paola Passalacqua,Elisabeth Steel,A. J. Chadwick,Chris Paola,Steven L. Goodbred,Anner Paldor,Holly A. Michael +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper , surface information was used to improve the characterization of the nature and geometry of subsurface features, thus improving the predictions of groundwater flow in the Bengal Delta, and the results showed that densely distributed lithologic data from active lower and mid-delta are consistent with the object-based models generated from surface information.
