Journal ArticleDOI

Artificial induction of maturation and fertilization in the Japanese eel, Anguilla japonica

TL;DR: Repeated injections of salmon pituitary extract induced vitellogenesis in feminized, cultivated Japanese eels, and many fertilized eggs from cultivated eels are obtained using these techniques developed for female and male eels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Purification of gonadotropins (PmGTH I and II) from red seabream (Pagrus major) and development of a homologous radioimmunoassay for PmGTH II.

TL;DR: Two gonadotropic glycoproteins were purified by ion-exchange chromatography, gel filtration and preparative SDS-PAGE from pituitaries of red seabream, a marine teleost which has an asynchronous-type ovary and spawns almost daily during the spawning season, and properties suggest that PmGTH I and II correspond to salmon GTHI and II.
Journal ArticleDOI

Development of digestive organs and feeding ability in larvae of Japanese eel (Anguilla japonica)

TL;DR: From the developmental process of the digestive organs that the larvae can start feeding at 7 DPH, which is earlier than observations of first feeding, it is inferred that the eel pancreas starts to synthesize digestive enzymes at 6 DPH.
Journal ArticleDOI

Development of maturational competence of oocytes of red seabream, Pagrus major, after human chorionic gonadotropin treatment in vitro requires RNA and protein synthesis.

TL;DR: The results suggest that gonadotropin-induced synthesis of new protein through a mechanism dependent on RNA is essential for the development of maturational competence in oocytes of red seabream.
