Stopover-site feather isotopes uncover African non-breeding grounds of migratory passerines
Journal ArticleDOI
Feather stable isotope (δ2H) measurements suggest no historical variation in latitudinal origin of migrants in two declining songbirds
TL;DR: The geographic origin of migratory birds can be traced using measurements of stable-hydrogen isotopes (δ2H) in their feathers in continental Europe, so that assignments of geographical origin of bird feathers are linked to latitude as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Experimental Evaluation of δ2H, δ13C and δ15N Variability in Blood and Feathers of Wild and Captive Birds: Implications for Interspecific Food Web Studies
Robert G. Clark,Russell D. Dawson,Jennifer L. Greenwood,David W. Johns,Leonard I. Wassenaar,Keith A. Hobson +5 more
TL;DR: In swallows, tissue-isotope values reflected parental prey selection from spatially distinct food webs during nestling development with little effect(s) of family of origin, egg composition, or early growth.
The influence of trophic level and feeding location of the levels of organochlorine contaminants in seabird eggs as revealed by stable carbon and nitrogen isotope analysis
TL;DR: Stable-isotope analysis of bird eggs may be used to infer trophic position and feeding location of adult seabirds and can be readily correlated with measurements of egg contaminant levels, which have been used extensively to assay contaminants in marine food webs.
