Industrial applications of fuzzy control

This chapter explains the meaning of basic terms and concepts related to expert systems, describes the architecture and functions of an expert system, and the conditions under which the building or purchase of an expert system is feasible. The benefits and disadvantages attached to the use of expert systems will be analysed. Also included are a description of the tools and methods used for building expert systems plus the criteria used to evaluate and compare these tools. Finally the reader will gain an understanding of the difficult process of knowledge acquisition and an awareness of the legal implications of the use of expert systems.

A Review of Smart Parking System and its Technology

A communication system

Network devices have always been considered as configurable black boxes until the emergence of software-defined networking (SDN). SDN enables the networks to be programmed according to the user requirements; furthermore, it allows the network to be easily modified to suit transient demands. However, how do we program the network? SDN-compliant switches offer a low-level interface that makes programming error-prone. The controllers provide application programming interfaces, but still low-level, limited, and inflexible. High-level languages have the potential to be a better alternative to program the network. There exist several SDN programming languages implementing different sets of functionalities, and focusing on solving various issues. In face of all this diversity, no published paper outlines a pragmatic view allowing to compare the SDN languages. This paper presents a systematic survey of up-to-date OpenFlow-based SDN programming languages. Our approach relies on a taxonomy comprising all prominent features found in those languages. A detailed review of the existing works is carried out investigating the foundational parts of the languages with their contributions. Examples are discussed to illustrate the fundamental abstractions. Last, all gathered information is summarized, discussing the main ongoing research efforts and challenges. Future abstractions and features to be incorporated into the next generations of SDN programming languages are also considered.

A Survey on SDN Programming Languages: Toward a Taxonomy

Studies have shown that some existing enterprise applications including bussiness ERPs, Social Networks, etc implements a single layer security scheme which can easily be hacked. Also, these applications suffer from multiple security vulnerabilities, including SQL Injection Attacks (SQLIA), Social engineering, spoofing, etc. For most mission critical enterprises, their organizational critical assets can be dumped in an ERPs, which needs to be protected very adequately. This paper then develops a Cloud based Enterprise Resource Planning System (CloudERP) while reengineering a second (Layer-2) security appliance called Advanced Encryption Validation Key (AEVK) which is an authentication scheme based on Advanced MD5 Encryption (A-MD5) algorithm. The proposed approach is expected to replace the overall process architecture and security integrations in existing ERP vendor systems owing to its computational as well as security features. Our methology involved the use of Netbeans 7.0.1, JAVA Server Page and MySQL tools in this work.

A Novel Security Integration for Vulnerability Avoidance in Enterprise Cloud Applications (CloudERP)

This paper presents Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a strategic driver in the business processes of the financial institutions in Nigeria. Soundness of banks is important for the economic development of any country. In this work, an attempt was made to empirically examine the impact of key metric such as Infrastructure (ICT infrastructure), Intellectual Capital, IT Governance, ICT Service Management (ISM) Strategic Policy Framework (SPF) and Service Innovation on the business processes of the banks in Nigeria. The study was conducted with ten banks in Nigeria. The empirical results show that with the developments of the aforementioned key metrics, the soundness of the financial institutions both on microeconomics and macroeconomics scales will be enhanced. It was observed that with well developed financial institutions via ICT, the soundness of the banks will address the issues of good quality of service, good integrity system, cost reduction and profit maximization. A bivariate data model was developed through linear regression to ascertain the extent of correlation between ICT key indices and the attendant social economic index.

An econometric investigation on the impact of ict in the business processes of financial institutions in the developing countries.

Researchers have continued to proffer various solutions to the challenge of delineating from Trans-rectal ultrasound (TRUS) 2D-images of the prostate the regions of desired property. This paper presents an algorithm that categorises the detected regions suspected to be cancerous, hyper-echoic pixels, in the prostate gland from a 2D Trans-rectal Ultrasound images into three zones. The developed algorithm uses radial scanning of the pixels of the prostate gland image from common seed point both to detect and delineate the suspected cancerous pixels into zones, namely peripheral, transition and central, by applying ratios of the anatomical zones of the prostate gland. Expert knowledge, intensity and gradient features were implemented to delineate regions of interest. MATLAB programming tool was used for creating the codes that implemented the algorithms. Samples of TRUS 2D-images of the prostate for patients with raised PSA values (>10 ng/ml) used in a previous work by Award (2007) were used for testing the algorithm. The test results showed that the algorithm could detect zones of the prostate boundary exhibit image properties for cancer cells and also the percentage of malignancy detected in zones agreed with existing research findings. Comparison of detection results with that of an expert radiologist yielded the following performance parameters; accuracy of 88.55% and sensitivity of 71.65%.
