The invention relates to highly transparent plastic materials that can be laser-marked and/or laser-welded due to a concentration of nanometric laser-sensitive metal oxides. Said plastic materials can be in the form of moulded bodies, semifinished products, moulding masses or paint, and contain especially between 0.0001 and 0.1 wt. % of metal oxides having a particle size of between 5 and 100 nm. Typical metal oxides are nanometric indium tin oxide or antimony tin oxide. Said materials can especially be used to produce laser-markable production goods.

The mold surface is cooled to a temperature at which the casting material solidifies to form a skin. By varying the amount or type of material projected toward the heated mold surface, the method can make multilayer skins, skins from more than one material with a graded transition between materials, multicolor skins, and skim having a controlled, nonuniform thickness.

The present invention relates to plastic molded bodies having two-dimensional or three-dimensional image structures produced in the interior through laser subsurface engraving. The plastic molded bodies are made of plastic materials which have a content of nanoscale metal oxides having particle sizes from 1 to 500 nm, both the plastic material and also the included metal oxide being transparent to the laser light used for producing the image structures. The plastic materials from which the molded bodies are manufactured particularly contain metal oxides having particle sizes from 5 to 100 nm at a content of 0.0001 to 0.1 weight-percent. Typical metal oxides are nanoscale indium-tin oxide or antimony-tin oxide.

The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing molded polymer articles comprised of casting resins and having color-differentiated surface regions, wherein prior to the charging of the casting resin, a surface region of the molding implement is coated with a hardenable coating of a colorant-containing composition, producing color-differentiation in the surface of the molded articles. The designated surface regions of the molding implement are coated with at least two layers, whereby, according to the present method, the first coating step applies a filler-containing coating dispersion (L-1) without added colorant, and the second coating step applies a colorant-containing coating (L-2) without filler. Thereafter, the coating layers are dried, the casting resin is charged to the molding implement, the resin is polymerized by heating, and the molded articles removed from the mold.

Method for the fabrication of plastic sheets with high filler content

Moulded polymer articles are made from highly filled cast resins and a nacreous pigment-containing coating which has lustrous, optionally coloured, surfaces. In the process one surface of the moulding tool, before being filled with the cast resin, is coated with a hardenable coating of a nacreous pigment-containing varnish composition, the coating initially being applied onto the intended surface regions of the tool. After the drying of the varnish layer, the tool is filled with the cast resin, the polymerisation is carried out and removal from the mould takes place. The varnish composition may include a liquid carrier, a binding agent and a filler. The pigment may be based on mica, titanium dioxide or iron oxide. The polymer articles may be for sanitary use.
