1,2,3-Triazole-containing hybrids as leads in medicinal chemistry: A recent overview

Supramolecular gels assemble via non-covalent interactions between low-molecular-weight gelators (LMWGs). The gels form a solid-like nanoscale network spanning a liquid-like continuous phase, translating molecular-scale information into materials performance. However, gels based on LMWGs are often difficult to manipulate, easily destroyed and have poor rheological performance. The recurring image of newly discovered supramolecular gels is that of an inverted vial showing that the gel can support its own weight against gravity. Such images reflect the limitation that these gels simply fill the vessel in which they are made, with limited ability to be shaped. This property prevents supramolecular gels from having the same impact as polymer gels, despite greater synthetic tunability, reversibility and bio/environmental compatibility. In this Review, we evaluate strategies for imposing different shapes onto supramolecular gels and for patterning structures within them. We review fabrication methods including moulding, self-healing, 3D printing, photopatterning, diffusion and surface-mediated patterning. We discuss gelator chemistries amenable to each method, highlighting how a multicomponent approach can aid shaping and structuring. Supramolecular gels with defined shapes, or patterned structures with precisely controlled compositions, have the potential to intervene in applications, such as tissue engineering and nanoscale electronics, as well as opening up new technologies. Supramolecular gels comprise low-molecular weight gelators that assemble by non-covalent interactions. In this Review, a range of fabrication methods, as well as strategies for shaping, structuring and patterning supramolecular gels are discussed.

Shaping and Structuring Supramolecular Gels

The preparation of hybrid nanocomposite materials derived from polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) nanoparticles and polyimide (PI) has recently attracted much attention from both academia and industry, because such materials can display low water absorption, high thermal stability, good mechanical characteristics, low dielectric constant, flame retardance, chemical resistance, thermo-redox stability, surface hydrophobicity, and excellent electrical properties. Herein, we discussed the various methods that have been used to insert POSS nanoparticles into PI matrices, through covalent chemical bonding and physical blending, as well as the influence of the POSS units on the physical properties of the PIs.

Advances in Antimicrobial Organic and Inorganic Nanocompounds in Biomedicine

The translational therapies to promote interaction between cell and signal come with stringent eligibility criteria. The chemically defined, hierarchically organized, and simpler yet blessed with robust intermolecular association, the peptides, are privileged to make the cut-off for sensing the cell-signal for biologics delivery and tissue engineering. The signature service and insoluble network formation of the peptide self-assemblies as hydrogels have drawn a spell of research activity among the scientists all around the globe in the past decades. The therapeutic peptide market players are anticipating promising growth opportunities due to the ample technological advancements in this field. The presence of the other organic moieties, enzyme substrates and well-established protecting groups like Fmoc and Boc etc., bring the best of both worlds. Since the large sequences of peptides severely limit the purification and their isolation, this article reviews the account of last 5 years' efforts on novel approaches for formulation and development of single molecule amino acids, ultra-short peptide self-assemblies (di- and tri- peptides only) and their derivatives as drug/gene carriers and tissue-engineering systems.

Ultrashort Peptide Self-Assembly: Front-Runners to Transport Drug and Gene Cargos.

Two-dimensional (2D) lead-free halide perovskites have generated enormous perception in the field of optoelectronics due to their fascinating optical properties. However, an in-depth understanding on their shape-controlled charge-carrier recombination dynamics is still lacking, which could be resolved by exploring the photoluminescence (PL) blinking behaviour at the single-particle level. Herein, we demonstrate, for the first time, the synthesis of nanocrystals (NCs) and 2D nanosheets (NSs) of layered mixed halide, Cs3 Bi2 I6 Cl3 , by solution-based method. We applied fluorescence microscopy and super-resolution optical imaging at single-particle level to investigate their morphology-dependent PL properties. Narrow emission line widths and passivation of non-radiative defects were evidenced for 2D layered nanostructures, whereas the activation of shallow trap states was recognized at 77 K. Interestingly, individual NCs were found to display temporal intermittency (blinking) in PL emission. On the other hand, NS showed temporal PL intensity fluctuations within localized domains of the crystal. In addition, super-resolution optical image of the NS from localization-based method showed spatial inhomogeneity of the PL intensity within perovskite crystal.

Effects of Grain Size on the Thermoelectric Properties of Cu2SnS3: An Experimental and First-Principles Study

Heterostructures of inorganic halide perovskites with mixed-dimensional inorganic nanomaterials have shown great potential not only in the field of optoelectronic energy devices and photocatalysis but also for improving our fundamental understanding of the charge transfer across the heterostructure interface. Herein, we present for the first time the heterostructure integration of the CsPbBr3 nanocrystal with an N-doped carbon dot. We explore the photoluminescence (PL) and photoconductivity of the heterostructure of CsPbBr3 nanocrystals and N-doped carbon dots. PL quenching of CsPbBr3 nanocrystals with the addition of N-doped carbon dots was observed. The photoexcited electrons from the conduction band of CsPbBr3 are trapped in the N-acceptor state of N-doped carbon dots, and the charge transfer occurs via quasi type II-like electronic band alignment. The charge transfer in the halide perovskite-based heterostructure should motivate further research into the new heterostructure synthesis with perovskites and the fundamental understanding of the mechanism of charge/energy transfer across the heterostructure interface.
