Welded Interior Box-Column to I-Beam Connections

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors deal with experimental investigations to study the ultimate load behavior of I-beam to box-column connections stiffened externally, and show that these connections satisfy the basic criteria: sufficient strength, sufficient rotation capacity, and adequate stiffness for a moment connection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Box-column to I-beam connections with external stiffeners

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the results of the analyses, using the finite element method, to study the behaviour of externally stiffened box-column to I-beam connections Joints with different types of stiffener, viz triangular plate stiffeners, angle stiffeners and T-stiffeners have been studied.
Journal ArticleDOI

Behaviour of I-beam to box-column connections stiffened externally and subjected to fluctuating loads

TL;DR: In this article, the cyclic behavior of seven full size I-beam to box-column connections was investigated, and the failure modes were observed; some failures were caused by fracture of welds at the joints while most failed by excessive yielding of stiffeners followed by buckling of either the column webs or beam flanges at the joint.
Journal ArticleDOI

Use of external T-stiffeners in box-column to I-beam connections

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of various types of stiffeners on the connection behavior between box-column to I-beams has been studied both experimentally and analytically using the finite element method.
