Analyzing power of n-3He elastic scattering from 1 to 2 MeV

Few-nucleon problems are studied at the polarized neutron facility of the Karlsruhe cyclotron in scattering experiments on very light nuclei. In a first series of experiments the analyzing power Ay( ) of the elastic scattering of neutron on H, 2H, 3He, and 4He has been measured in the energy range up to 50 MeV. These data have been analyzed and corrected for multiple scattering and finite geometry effects. The agreement with existing data sets is good. However, the accuracy could be improved considerably in most cases. Present work is concentrated on detailed studies of the n-p system. Sensitivity calculations show the need for precise data for the backward angle differential cross section and for the spin correlation parameter Ayy. Both experiments are in progress at present. A new phase shift analysis is being performed in the energy range from 15 to 50 MeV.

Measurements of the Analyzing Power of n-3He Elastic Scattering Between 1.60 and 5.54 MeV

Elastic scattering by 3He for 1.67, 2.43, 3.0, 3.4 and 7.8 MeV neutron beams of known polarization was measured at seven angles from 25° to 155° using a high pressure gas scintillation counter. The geometrical and multiple scattering effects were accounted for by the Monte Carlo technique. The corrected results were compared with previous experimental data and with the existing predictions based on microscopic calculations and phenomenological analyses.

Die elastische Streuung von Neutronenstrahlen mit bekannter Polarisation wird an 3He bei Einschusenergien von 1,67, 2,43, 3,0, 3,4 und 7,8 MeV und Einschuswinkeln von 25° bis 155° mittels eines Hochdruck-Gas-Scintillatorzahlers untersucht.



Die Effekte der geometrischen und Vielfachstreuungen werden mittels Monte-Carlo-Methoden berucksichtigt.



Die korrigierten Resultate werden mit fruheren experimentellen Daten und mit Ergebnissen verglichen, die auf mikroskopischen Rechnungen und phanomenologischen Theorien beruhen.
