Journal ArticleDOI

Cometary splitting due to thermal stresses

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider the thermal evolution of icy solids moving on the highly eccentric orbits on the base of the numerical solution of the nonlinear heat diffusion equation and present a possible disintegration scenario of a distant icy solid due to thermal stresses.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Thermal Destruction of Solids Near the Sun

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors consider the thermal evolution of both icy and non-icy solids moving in highly eccentric orbits using an analytical solution of the heat diffusion equation and show that thermal stresses which arise inside and at the surface of solids can exceed by several orders of magnitude the tidal stresses in the neighbourhood of the Sun for all material considered.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamics of dust grains near the Sun

TL;DR: In this article, the orbital motion of interplanetary dust grains in sublimation zone near the Sun is revised in detail for grains of obsidian, basalt, astronomical silicate and graphite.
Journal ArticleDOI

Orbital Evolution of Dust Particles in the Sublimation Zone near the Sun

TL;DR: In this paper, the orbital evolution of dust particles from volcanic glass (p-obsidian), basalt, astrosilicate, olivine, and pyroxene in the sublimation zone near the Sun is analyzed.
