Cyclodextrine werden gerne als Bausteine eingesetzt, da sie sich gezielt sowohl kovalent, als auch nichtkovalent verknupfen lassen. So wurden an ein β-Cyclodextrinmolekul regioselektiv ein, zwei, drei, sieben, vierzehn, achtzehn oder zwanzig Substituenten kovalent gebunden. Cyclodextrine sind zudem organische Wirtmolekule. In ihrem Innenraum finden ein oder zwei Gastmolekule Platz. Umgekehrt konnen ein, zwei oder viele (hundert und mehr) Cyclodextrinmolekule auf ein passendes Gastmolekul aufgefadelt werden. Solche supramolekularen Strukturen entstehen meist in Losung, so das sie durch hochauflosende spektroskopische Methoden charakterisiert werden konnen. Sie lassen sich weiter in sonst sehr schwer zugangliche molekulare Architekturen wie Catenane, Rotaxane, Polyrotaxane und Rohren effizient umwandeln. Cyclodextrine konnen auch recht interessante Funktionen ausuben. So wird ihre Fahigkeit zur molekularen Erkennung zur chromatographischen Trennung von komplexen Stoffgemischen, insbesondere von Racematen, genutzt. Auch konnen Cyclodextrine oder deren Derivate bemerkenswerte katalytische Aktivitaten aufweisen. Schlieslich kann man mit Cyclodextrinen die Verfugbarkeit von Wirkstoffen gunstig beeinflussen, was sicherlich in nachster Zeit zu vielen Anwendungen fuhren wird.

Cyclodextrine als Bausteine supramolekularer Strukturen und Funktionseinheiten

Vapor phase room temperature overtone spectra of cyclohexane are measured with conventional near infrared spectroscopy for the lower overtones, ΔvCH=2–4, and with intracavity dye laser photoacoustic spectroscopy for the higher overtones, ΔvCH=5–7. The relative intensity of the axial to equatorial peak is explained in terms of the local mode model of harmonically coupled anharmonic oscillators, where all modes but the two CH‐stretching modes are neglected. The dipole moment function is expanded in the two CH‐stretching coordinates, where the expansion coefficients are determined from ab initio molecular orbital calculations. This simple calculation, which contains no adjustable parameters, can account very well for the observed relative intensity of axial and equatorial pure local mode peaks in the overtone spectra from ΔvCH=3–7. The relative intensity contributions of axial and equatorial CH bonds in the local mode overtone spectra of cyclohexane

Cells and tissues often display pronounced spatial and dynamical metabolic heterogeneity. Common glucose-imaging techniques report glucose uptake or catabolism activity, yet do not trace the functional utilization of glucose-derived anabolic products. Here we report a microscopy technique for the optical imaging, via the spectral tracing of deuterium (STRIDE), of diverse macromolecules derived from glucose. Based on stimulated Raman-scattering imaging, STRIDE visualizes the metabolic dynamics of newly synthesized macromolecules, such as DNA, protein, lipids and glycogen, via the enrichment and distinct spectra of carbon-deuterium bonds transferred from the deuterated glucose precursor. STRIDE can also use spectral differences derived from different glucose isotopologues to visualize temporally separated glucose populations using a pulse-chase protocol. We also show that STRIDE can be used to image glucose metabolism in many mouse tissues, including tumours, brain, intestine and liver, at a detection limit of 10 mM of carbon-deuterium bonds. STRIDE provides a high-resolution and chemically informative assessment of glucose anabolic utilization.

We have measured the intensities of fundamental and overtone transitions of CH stretching vibrations for a few selected paraffins, ketones, ethers, aromatic compounds, and haloforms. We have noticed some trends in the data, which we have correlated to the nature of the chemical bonds in the molecules. In order to account for both the fundamental and overtone intensity data, three different models for the CH bond electric dipole moments have been employed.
