Exploring the role of language proficiency and cultural adaptation in travel risk perception: A study of Asian working holiday makers in Australia:

ABSTRACT This research performs a systematic review of research on Thailand tourism. We identified emergent research themes and explored the conceptualization of studies regarding the development of Thailand tourism. In accordance with the theory, context, characteristic, and methodology (TCCM) framework, this work offers a comprehensive outline of relevant studies and gaps in the existing literature to edify and advance future research agendas. It successfully enriches knowledge about Thailand tourism in the extant tourism literature. Moreover, this review contributes to Thailand tourism literature and travel industry, particularly during the transitional period from the “old normal” to the “new normal” tourism era.

Thailand tourism: a systematic review

Abstract This study employs a dynamic rather than a static and contextual rather than cultural conceptual framework for expatriate managers’ cross-cultural adjustment. It applies theories of learning-unlearning and of role behavior to explain what expatriates’ values, attitudes and behavior are being adjusted, how they are being adjusted and why they are being adjusted. A dynamic and contextual conceptualization of the process of cross-cultural adjustment refines theory by presenting adjustment as a continuous rather than as sporadic process; by providing a framework for identifying and prioritizing sources of the “push” and “pull” to adjust; and by generalizing theory of cross-cultural adjustment to include sojourners other than expatriates. Data were collected using an intensive literature search of publications in the English language. The study’s conceptual framework has the potential to enhance the development of a general theory of cross-cultural adjustment and to provide organizations with knowledge of how to define, measure and manage expatriate-managers’ adjustment, and, therefore, the ability to develop and employ tools to assist in the selection, training, performance management and evaluation and compensation of expatriates.

This case study aims to provide additional insights into the domestic self-drive market segment. The purpose of this research is threefold. First, the study validates the multidimensional attributes of the car-self-drive experience. Second, this study investigates the effects of self-drive attributes on tourist delight and memorable experience as well as their influence on destination advocacy. Finally, by focusing on different age segments, this study examines the priority of self-drive attributes in relation to importance and performance. An online survey (n = 1260) was conducted via convenience and snowball sampling. Findings indicate four destination attributes and two driving attributes that affect tourist delight as well as two destination attributes and one driving attribute that affect tourists’ memorable experience. The results vary on the basis of age segments. The importance–performance map analysis was further conducted to identify the importance–performance levels of the self-drive attributes. This study provides several contributions to the self-drive tourism industry by complementing previous studies, assembling multidimensional attributes and introducing a new outcome variable. The practical implications of this study also benefit tourism and destination authorities in promoting self-drive tourism to different age groups, particularly in Thailand and in the ASEAN region.
