Supporting members are provided between an instrument panel reinforcement and a display, and the supporting members and a duct are set so as to overlap as seen in side view. Further, at the duct, a through-hole through which the supporting member passes is formed in a duct portion, and a through-hole through which the supporting member passes is formed in a duct portion. Therefore, due to the supporting members, that support the display, being passed-through the duct portion, the supporting members are provided so as to overlap the duct as seen in plan view.

A method for forming an integrated structural system for a vehicle is provided. The method including the steps of: securing a first beam component to a structural member by a molding process, the first beam component being molded from a first amount of thermoplastic material, the structural member being formed from a material different than the first amount of thermoplastic material; and securing a second beam component to the first beam component, the second beam component being separately molded from a second amount of thermoplastic material, the second beam component having a configuration different from the first beam component.

Integrated structural member for a vehicle and method of making

A knee guard on the passenger side of a vehicle includes left and right knee guard brackets disposed along left and right side faces of a glove box and secured at a front end thereof to a steering support beam, a connecting member transversely connecting these left and right knee guard brackets and a closure member of the glove box. The closure member includes a reinforcement therein and the reinforcement has a closed cross section which extends in the widthwise direction of the vehicle. When the knees of a passenger abut against the closure member of the glove box in the event of a head-on impact, the closure member is displaced forwardly and abuts against the left and right knee guard brackets, thereby an impact load is transmitted to the knee guard brackets.

A cross car structure member including a beam comprising a hollow extended aluminum metal tube extending across the vehicle between the vehicle pillars, preferably, with the interior of the tube being used as a heating, ventilating and air conditioning duct.

Cross car support structure

A knee protection system for a vehicle in which the vehicle has a dashboard and a support member extending transversely across the vehicle within dashboard. The system includes at least one pair of brackets affixed to and spaced along the support member, with each bracket having an impact surface spaced from the dashboard. At least one reinforced panel affixed to existing components of the dashboard forms a part of the system. The panel is spaced from the impact surface of each bracket and comes into contact with the impact surface first when the vehicle is involved in a collision.

Knee protection system for a vehicle

This paper presents a product modeling system that supports the systems engineering process including qualitative and quantitative requirements traceability, and demonstrates its application in a case study of a passenger car cockpit. The system features a user interface that enables rapid trade studies. The paper further discusses how to introduce simulation models in the product development process and what kind of simulation models can be used during different development stages.
