How to estimate the resolution of an LES of recirculating flow

TL;DR: In this paper, two-point correlations are used to estimate the resolution of an LES in a plane asymmetric diffuser and decaying grid turbulence, and the main conclusions are that two point correlations are the best way to estimate resolution and that energy spectra are not suitable.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of realizability constraints in v2–f turbulence models

TL;DR: The use of realizability constraint in (v(2)) over bar-f turbulence models is assessed by computing a stator vane passage flow in this paper, where the stagnation region is large and it is shown that the time scale bound suggested by Int J Heat Fluid Flow 17 (1995) 89] is well suited to prevent unphysical growth of turbulence kinetic energy.
Book ChapterDOI

Hybrid LES-RANS: Inlet Boundary Conditions for Flows with Recirculation

TL;DR: In this article, a new method for prescribing synthesized turbulent inlet boundary conditions was proposed, where a large number of independent realizations are generated and a correlation in time between these realizations is introduced via an asymmetric, non-truncated time filter.
Book ChapterDOI

Hybrid Les-Rans: Computation of the Flow Around a Three-Dimensional Hill

TL;DR: In this paper, a hybrid large eddy simulation-Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (LES-RANS) is introduced to get rid of the requirement of high near-wall resolution in wall-parallel planes.
